Colchester CO JL, United Kingdom Colchester General Hospital Full time £70,000 - £115,000 per year

Colchester Hospital is looking for a Locum Emergency General Surgeon who has had experience in the laparoscopic and robotic approaches to general and colorectal surgery to become part of the acute general surgical team. The candidate is expected to have undergone laparoscopic/robotic general surgery training. We are keen on developing the emergency surgery service but are also keen to expand the support we provide with joint endometriosis surgery where colorectal input is important. We will mentor and train successful candidates in advanced robotic endometriosis surgery with our gynaecology endometriosis surgeons.

With that in mind, there is the potential to consider an earlier move to becoming substantive if there has been satisfactory progress in the job and a subsequent successful interview well before the 12 month period.

Applicants must be on the GMC Register.

Candidates would have to have a strong enthusiasm for the laparoscopic approach, be able to demonstrate the ability to publish research, have a commitment to teaching and would preferably have received training in some form of advanced laparoscopic emergency general surgery. The possible need for mentoring and/or joint consultant operating is recognised and, if required, the appropriate candidate will gain full support for this approach from the unit who have already used these techniques to great effect. The candidate could be trained up for certain surgical procedures as they progress in the post.

The post-holder would also be expected to contribute to the overall work of the Department of General Surgery and take part in the general surgery emergency daytime on-call (1 in 12) and out of hours on-call rota which will be on a 1 in 12 basis.
