We are seeking Speech and Language Therapists to join the Department of Allied Health Professions, Sport and Exercise as a University Practitioner. These are part time posts (up to 0.8 FTE) enabling the successful applicant to inspire learning for undergraduate students alongside their Speech and Language Therapist practice.

The University of Huddersfield has excellent facilities which continue to expand with state-of-the art teaching, research and clinical facilities on the National Health Innovation Campus. We have a diverse student body and work closely with our public partnership group and education partners.

Huddersfield is close to beautiful countryside and with excellent road and rail links to Manchester, Leeds, and Sheffield. In 2023, the University achieved TEF Gold award.

This role is open to Speech and Language Therapists interested in educating the future workforce to meet the challenges of service users and service needs. You may also support practice-based learning through innovations such as an on-site student-led speech and language clinic.

You will be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Speech and Language Therapist, and have a relevant Master's degree (or be able to complete this within 12 months of commencement). Qualified therapists who have commenced and can complete a level-7 qualification within 12 months of commencement will be considered. You will be a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, or willing to work towards this within 12 months of appointment.

We particularly welcome applications from practitioners experienced in adults with acquired and / or progressive conditions and/or children and young people with speech language and communication needs. You will bring experience of training or teaching speech and language therapy within a clinical or higher education setting. Other practice may be through paid employment with another employer, paid consultancy or freelance work.

This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. Regular status checks may also be required, depending on your role.

The University is deeply committed to equality and diversity for all its students and staff. We seek to be diverse and inclusive, supporting individuals and groups to fulfil their potential and nurture a sense of belonging. We strive to be an accessible, inclusive employer, removing barriers for all. Find out more about our approach to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, including our commitments and accreditations as a Disability Confident Leader, Stonewall Gold Award holder and Top 100 Employer, Athena SWAN Bronze Award holder and Race Equality Charter Bronze Award holder.

Informal enquiries about the role are welcome to Dr Jayne Samples by email:

If you are a current student at the University, you are welcome to apply for part-time roles of 16 hours or less per week, unless you are a part-time postgraduate student, in which case you can also apply for full time roles, subject to any visa requirements.
