GAIN Empower Investment Internship Programme 2026

GAIN is a community of investors, with charitable status, set to change the staggering lack of gender diversity in investment management, from the ground up.
In the UK, women represent just 12% of decision makers in investment management. At entry level, it's not much better – it's understood that only 20% of applicants to the industry are women.
We surveyed young women aged 16-21 and found the reasons twofold. Firstly, young women don't understand what investing means and why it's important to society. Secondly, there aren't enough female role models in investing – and if you can't see her, you can't be her. These reasons shouldn't come as a surprise, but the fact nothing has been done yet to course-correct among young women should.
GAIN is here to change this
. Our purpose is to inspire and empower. We inform young women and non-binary people with online resources, bringing helpful information on careers in investment to their fingertips. We inspire young women and non-binary people with a strong network of female role models, who speak in high schools and universities around the UK and feature on our online channels, delivering compelling and high-impact messages on the many benefits of investing as a career.
What is a GAIN internship?
As a GAIN intern, you will spend 4+ weeks over the summer with one of our internship host firms.
Alongside a fantastic industry placement where you'll gain hands-on experience, you'll receive:
- AmplifyMe professional training
– gain technical investment skills and build confidence before you even set foot in the office. - Soft‑skills sessions
– develop communication, teamwork and resilience - tools you need to succeed beyond the internship. - Networking at our intern summer celebration
– connect with peers, mentors and other industry professional at a dedicated evening designed to forge meaningful relationships - Membership of the GAIN community
– join a strong network of fellow interns, alumni and mentors for ongoing support, peer learning and collaboration. - Priority access to events
– get early invites to GAIN's webinars, panels and workshops throughout the year.
Who is eligible to apply?
Candidates applying to the programme need to be:
- Women or Non-Binary
- Penultimate year, final year, Master's or MBA students
- Entitled to work in the United Kingdom during the internship period (June - September 2026)
- On track for, or have already achieved, a 2:1 degree
- Committed to all aspects of the GAIN Empower Investment Internship Programme - technical skills training, soft skills and professionalism training, networking events, mentoring and fulfilling an internship to the best of your ability
