Job Purpose
This role is key in supporting the inclusion, attendance, and academic progress of pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA). This includes the delivery of targeted interventions, coordination of curriculum access for students out of mainstream lessons, and fostering pupil engagement in both academic and personal development. The Academic Support Lead will also contribute to lesson delivery and provide cover where required, often working independently.
A key aspect of the role is to support the successful reintegration of pupils into mainstream lessons, working to reduce gaps in learning and ensure continuity of progress, while promoting a positive and inclusive school experience.
Person Specification
- A strong desire to work with young people supporting education outcomes
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with adults and young people
- Able to work under pressure and use own initiative
- Competent in using ICT
- Educated to Degree level or equivalent experience
- QTS desired but not essential
- Committed to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of young people in line with the academy safeguarding policies and procedures
- Able to maintain accurate records, including individual education learning plans.
- Willing to work with colleagues in developing learning activities and tasks to meet the needs of individual students.
- Committed to the continuous development of self and others, by keeping up to date and sharing knowledge, encouraging new ideas, seeking new opportunities and challenges, open to ideas and developing new skills.
Duties
Support for pupils:
- Deliver structured, evidence-based interventions tailored to EHCP, SEMH, and EBSA pupils, in collaboration with the SENDCo, SLT, pastoral team, and external agencies.
- Provide individualised support for pupils experiencing Emotionally Based School Avoidance, including phased reintegration plans and wellbeing-focused interventions.
- Support pupils in settling into the Reflective Learning Area at the beginning of the day, helping to establish calm, purposeful routines and readiness for learning.
- Coordinate and facilitate curriculum access for pupils working outside of mainstream lessons, ensuring continuity and progress.
- Support the reintegration of pupils into lessons following periods of absence, withdrawal, or alternative provision, working closely with teaching staff to bridge gaps in learning.
- Monitor and record pupil progress against intervention targets, EHCP outcomes, and attendance goals.
- Establish and maintain positive, trusting relationships with individual pupils and small groups.
- Model and reinforce positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social interaction.
- Support pupils in developing literacy, numeracy, and wider cognitive skills in line with personalised learning plans.
- Promote pupil attendance and engagement through consistent routines, encouragement, and targeted support.
Support for the teacher:
- Assist in planning and evaluating learning activities, particularly for pupils with SEND, SEMH, and EBSA needs.
- Prepare and adapt classroom resources to meet individual pupil needs and support reintegration.
- Support behaviour management strategies and contribute to a safe, inclusive learning environment.
- Use ICT to enhance learning and engagement, especially for pupils accessing remote or alternative provision.
- Maintain accurate records of pupil progress, attendance, and intervention impact.
- Liaise with teaching staff to ensure curriculum alignment for pupils out of lessons and during reintegration.
- Support teaching staff or senior colleagues with routine administration;
- Contribute to the planning and evaluation of learning activities;
- Assist in the record of pupils' progress.
Support for the Academy:
- develop effective working relationships with colleagues and parents;
- contribute to the maintenance of pupils' safety and security;
- review and develop their own professional practice;
- recognise confidentiality, child protection procedures, Health & Safety, and the policies of the Governing Body;
- attend training events;
- assist the teaching staff in the smooth transition between educational phases;
- assist in the preparation of reports on pupils' performance, and contribute to the maintenance of pupils' records;
- Liaise effectively with parents and other parties, as required.
- Subject to appropriate training, support the first aid arrangements within the school.
Whole Class Teaching:
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in line with curriculum planning and pupil needs.
- Ensure all work is age-appropriate and adapted for pupils with EHCPs and SEMH needs.
- Assess and provide feedback on student work in accordance with school policy.
- Direct and support additional adults in the classroom to maximise pupil outcomes.
- Provide input to assessment data and contribute to pupil progress tracking.

Landau Forte Academy QEMS & Tamworth Sixth Form
Landau Forte Academy QEMS joined the Landau Forte Charitable Trust in September 2011 and delivers education to 11-16 year olds. Landau Forte Academy Sixth Form is a purpose-built establishment providing Level 3 courses, both Advanced Level and BTEC, for the whole of Tamworth and beyond. The academies are located on a shared campus, but both operate from their own facilities, with Landau Forte Academy Sixth Form having new bespoke, accommodation, which opened in September 2011, with a new Sports Hall that opened in 2013.
