Brixton's Windmill is a historic monument and community centre. Seeking a Vice Chair with a passion for local heritage to support the Chair and deputise in their absence and to focus on supporting and developing our membership base.

This is a vital role, helping ensure we can continue to protect the Brixton Windmill and gardens for future generations and continue to support our local community.
As a trustee, you will have a real opportunity to
- Offer your unique skill set to help the strategic progression of the charity.
- To make a significant impact on the growth and success of the Friends of Brixton Windmill Gardens and save the Windmill for future generations.
- Work with an experienced and passionate team of trustees, staff, and volunteers.
- Networking opportunities with key figures in the charity sector.
- Making a difference and serving your local community.
What are we looking for?
Desired Skills & Experience
- Experience in a leadership or governance role within a charity or nonprofit organisation preferable.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across a range of stakeholders, including members, donors, and the wider community.
- Experience in strategic planning, project management, and/or membership growth initiatives.
- A collaborative, approachable, and flexible leadership style, with the ability to work effectively with both Board members and staff.
- Passion for the Friends of Brixton Windmill Gardens mission and a commitment to the success and growth of the organisation.
What will you be doing?
- Governance & Strategic Support
- Support the Chair in leading the Board of Trustees and ensuring the charity's overall governance meets legal, financial, and operational requirements.
- Step into the role of Chair in their absence, ensuring continuity of leadership and decision-making.
- Act as a sounding board for the Chair, providing advice and support on strategic initiatives and key organisational decisions.
- Represent the charity at external meetings, events, and in media opportunities, as required.
- Membership Coordination & Engagement
- Lead the development and implementation of a strategic membership plan, ensuring it aligns with the charity's goals and values.
- Oversee the recruitment, retention, and engagement of members.
- Ensure members are kept informed through regular communication, including newsletters, updates, and events.
- Collaborate with other trustees and staff to ensure membership is effectively integrated into the charity's operations and activities.
