Location: Falmer, East Sussex (hybrid, 2 days per week)
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week
Salary: circa £50,000 (depending on skills and experience)
Want to use your project management skills to make a real environmental impact? Join our Clean Rivers & Seas Task Force and help tackle one of the UK's biggest challenges—reducing storm overflows and improving water quality.
We're delivering pioneering, industry-leading solutions that make a tangible difference for communities and ecosystems. After successfully completing a £45m pathfinder programme, we're scaling up to a £1.5bn initiative over the next decade. This is your chance to play a key role in shaping interventions that will transform the way we manage storm overflows for generations to come.
We're excited to announce a brand-new opportunity to join our Clean Rivers & Seas Task Force as a Technical Team Project Manager.
Job Overview
As the Technical Team Project Manager, you will manage the delivery of projects within the Clean Rivers & Seas Task Force's Technical Team. You'll play a key role in designing interventions that support our £1.5 billion storm overflow reduction programme.
You will be responsible for:
- Owning and managing the technical budget and programme.
- Ensuring robust financial control, quality assurance, and value for money across all technical activities.
- Overseeing flow monitoring, digital tool development, and intervention design.
- Ensuring projects meet governance standards, regulatory requirements, and are delivered on time.
- Collaborating with technical specialists, data analysts, modellers, contractors, and stakeholders in procurement and finance to drive innovation and efficiency.
About You
We're looking for someone who:
- Has proven experience in project management, ideally within environmental or infrastructure programmes.
- Is confident managing budgets, timelines, and stakeholder relationships.
- Thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
- Is passionate about environmental improvement and delivering innovative solutions.
- Has excellent communication and organisational skills.
This is a unique opportunity to be part of a transformative programme that will dramatically reduce spills and reliance on storm overflows, enhancing the environment for generations to come.
Package
This role offers a hybrid working model between our Falmer office and home. We offer a salary of circa £50,000 and a comprehensive benefits package including:
- Generous pension (up to 11% company contribution)
- 25 days annual leave
- Life assurance (4x salary)
- Salary sacrifice electric car scheme (after 6 months)
- Health Cash Plan & funded eye tests
- Two paid volunteering days a year
- Occupational health service
- Discounts with over 800 retailers
- Digital GP service
- Study support for job-related qualifications
- Competitive maternity leave & flexible return options
- Cycle to work scheme
Does this opportunity excite you but you're not 100% sure if you meet all the requirements for the role? Or are you concerned that 'normal' office hours aren't possible given your personal circumstances? Whilst we can't accommodate every flexible working request, we'll try to find a practical solution. So why not engage with us and find out more about this role?
Our customers are at the heart of everything we do, because delivering water for life is our core purpose. To achieve this, we need 24/7 support in place to resolve incidents quickly and efficiently. All our employees understand the importance of out-of-hours incident support – because when problems appear, fixing them is our top priority. That's why our people join together and support when and however needed to make sure our customers get the service they deserve. Joining the Southern Water family means you'll become part of our incident support team. During your interview, your manager will speak to you about any incident support rotas that apply to your position.
Privacy Statement:
Please note: If you are an existing Southern Water employee, you will need to confirm within your application that your Manager is aware of your application. All applicants must be eligible to live and work in the UK. You will need to provide evidence of eligibility (e.g. a passport or long birth certificate and proof of NI) and current proof of address (dated within the last 3 months), will be required as part of the recruitment process. If you do not meet these criteria, your application will not be considered.
