Summary of the Role
Long Close School seeks a capable, organised, and confident Cleaning Supervisor to lead the in-house cleaning team. This part-time role is central to ensuring that the school maintains consistently high standards of cleanliness, safety, and presentation across all areas of the site. The position requires a calm, reliable individual with strong communication skills and an ability to coordinate a small team effectively, whilst also completing hands-on cleaning duties as required.
Main Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Coordination
Oversee the daily work of the cleaning team, ensuring that all tasks are completed to the standards required by the school.
Allocate duties, manage rotas, and adjust staff deployment as necessary to meet operational needs.
Provide clear direction, support, and encouragement to the team, ensuring a positive and cooperative working atmosphere.
Assist with the recruitment, induction, and training of new cleaning staff.
Monitor performance and raise any concerns promptly with the Operations Manager.
Operational Responsibilities
Ensure that all teaching spaces, corridors, toilets, communal areas, offices, and specialist rooms are cleaned in line with the agreed schedules.
Conduct regular quality checks, taking immediate action where standards fall short.
Maintain stock levels of cleaning supplies and consumables, submitting requests for replenishment in a timely manner.
Ensure cleaning materials and equipment are stored safely and securely in accordance with COSHH guidance.
Complete and maintain relevant cleaning records, reports, and checklists.
Support deeper cleaning routines during holiday periods, inset days, and at other times as required.
Health, Safety, and Compliance
Ensure the cleaning team works safely at all times, following school policies and established procedures.
Report any health and safety concerns, maintenance issues, or hazards promptly to the Operations Manager.
Ensure all staff follow COSHH requirements and adhere to safe handling guidelines for chemicals and equipment.
Assist with any compliance checks or audits relating to cleanliness and hygiene.
Partnership and Communication
Work closely with the Operations Manager to ensure smooth daily operations and effective planning.
Respond courteously to staff requests relating to cleaning or room preparation.
Communicate changes, issues, and updates clearly to the cleaning team and to senior colleagues as necessary.
Skills, Experience, and Personal Qualities
Previous experience supervising a cleaning team, ideally within a school or similar environment.
Strong organisational skills, with an ability to prioritise and delegate tasks confidently.
Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining consistently high standards.
Reliable, punctual, and professional in approach.
A positive manner, with the ability to build good working relationships across the school.
Sound understanding of safe working practices, particularly COSHH requirements.
Ability to undertake manual tasks associated with cleaning, including lifting, bending, and extended periods of movement.
Hours and Working Pattern
This is a part-time role.
Working hours will be agreed at appointment and may include early mornings or afternoons, depending on operational needs.
Occasional additional hours may be required during school events or holiday deep-clean periods.
