Summary of the Role

Long Close School seeks reliable, diligent, and conscientious part-time cleaners to join the in-house cleaning team. The role is central to ensuring that the school remains a safe, hygienic, and well-presented environment for pupils, staff, and visitors. The successful candidates will work to an agreed cleaning schedule, maintain high standards throughout all designated areas of the site, and uphold the school's expectations for professionalism, discretion, and excellent conduct.

Main Responsibilities

  • Carry out daily cleaning duties across classrooms, corridors, offices, toilets, communal areas, and specialist teaching spaces as directed.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, polish, wipe down surfaces, and sanitise touch points in line with school hygiene requirements.
  • Empty bins and manage waste in accordance with school and local authority procedures.
  • Support deeper cleaning routines during school holidays, inset days, and other times as required by the Facilities Manager.
  • Handle cleaning materials and equipment safely, ensuring that all supplies are used appropriately and stored securely.
  • Report any defects, maintenance issues, or health and safety concerns promptly to the Cleaning Supervisor or the Facilities Manager.
  • Ensure that cleaning work is completed within allocated hours and to the standards set by the school.
  • Assist with replenishing consumables such as soap, paper towels, toilet rolls, and cleaning supplies.
  • Maintain a tidy and orderly cleaning cupboard and equipment storage area.
  • Contribute positively to the wider cleaning and facilities team.

Skills, Experience, and Personal Qualities

  • Experience in a school or similar setting is desirable, although full training will be provided.
  • Strong attention to detail, with a methodical approach and consistently high standards.
  • Understanding of safe working practices, including COSHH regulations.
  • Reliability, good time-keeping, and a steady work ethic.
  • A composed, professional manner, with the ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Physical capability to meet the practical demands of the role.

Hours and Working Pattern

  • This is a part-time role.
  • The school operates early-morning and afternoon cleaning shifts, and assigned hours will be confirmed at appointment.
  • Additional hours may occasionally be required for special events or holiday deep-clean periods.

Part-time cleaners will report to the Cleaning Supervisor and the Facilities Manager.
