We currently have an opportunity for a Biodiversity Action Officer to join our team based in Exeter. Joining us on a 15 month fixed term contract basis, you will receive a competitive salary of circa £35,000 per annum, plus excellent benefits.

The Biodiversity Action Officer will play a key role in delivering South West Water's Biodiversity Strategy across its landholdings and supporting the achievement of biodiversity outcomes within the Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP). This role will focus on coordinating biodiversity projects, managing data and reporting systems, and ensuring effective implementation of biodiversity management plans.

What you'll be doing:
  • Deliver SWW's Biodiversity Strategy across all landholdings and contribute to biodiversity outcomes within WINEP.
  • Manage the delivery of Biodiversity Management Plans for all SWW-owned land, including those managed by South West Lakes Trust (SWLT), SWW Operations, and other partners.
  • Input and maintain biodiversity data within SWW's data and GIS management systems.
  • Support the implementation of SWW's Biodiversity Management Systems and review available benchmarking data to identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide project management and delivery support for biodiversity projects, ensuring milestones and objectives are achieved.
  • Oversee habitat creation and enhancement projects, ensuring appropriate maintenance and establishment plans are in place.
  • Monitor and evaluate the delivery of biodiversity plans, providing recommendations for improvement where required.
  • Report on outcomes and progress across biodiversity work programmes, contributing to internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Potential line management of junior team members.
What we are looking for:
  • Experience in project coordination or project management, ideally within an environmental or conservation context.
  • Strong understanding of biodiversity, habitat management, and ecological principles.
  • Proficiency in GIS and data management systems.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners.
  • UK Driving License - the includes occasional travel with access to a pool works van.
Desirable
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working within the water industry or environmental sector.
  • Knowledge of biodiversity legislation, policy, and best practice.
  • Project management qualification (e.g., PRINCE2, APM).
