The Graduate Cable Engineer will support the engineering team in delivering high-quality MV and HV cable design work. This includes assisting with technical documentation, calculations, and drawings under the guidance of senior engineers.
During the two-year graduate programme, you will
- Design, verify and approve detailed allocation and construction design drawings.
- Conduct site visits to review cable route and joint bay locations.
- Liaise with engineering teams and external suppliers to ensure project success.

We're seeking graduates with a passion for engineering and a desire to make a difference. To apply, you should have:
- BEng/BSc in Electrical and Electronical Engineering, Power systems or related field.
- Proficient in Word and Microsoft Office.
What you'll be doing
As a graduate cable engineer, you will be Designing, verifying, and approving detailed allocation and construction design drawings
You will
- Assist/participate/contribute to and eventually carry out independently:
- Preparation and review of feasibility studies, technical reports, and design documents
- Design, verify, and approve detailed allocation and construction design drawings.
- Develop and validate design concepts, drawings, specifications, and other technical documentation.
- Design management and coordination
- Conduct site visit to review cable route and joint bay locations.
- Liaise with engineering teams and external suppliers to ensure project success.
- Ensure timely delivery of work within scope, budget, and specifications.
- Participate in Design & HAZID (Hazards in Design) reviews as required.
- Maintain and control documents and drawings in compliance with AS Design & Engineering Ltd. / AUREOS management procedures.

Qualifications and Training
- BEng/BSc in Electronic and Electronical Engineering, Power systems or relevant field.
- Proficient in Word and Microsoft Office
Desirable (Training will be provided)
- Understanding of HV cable design principles.
- Knowledge of IEC standards (e.g., IEC60287).
- Exposure to cable layout, trench design, and bonding diagrams.
- Basic proficiency in engineering software and Microsoft Office.
- Interest in learning about thermal analysis, EMF plots, and cable routing.
- Finite element analysis

- Mature enough to operate in a diverse team, respecting others at all times
- Good communication skills – able to represent AS Design & Engineering and communicate with external project stakeholders in writing and in person in a professional manner
- Able to work independently, meet deadlines and timescales without close direct supervision
- Enthusiastic about HV power engineering
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality designs.
- Strong time-management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Candidate must have a reasonable level of maths and science, preferably from a power engineering background
