We're partnering with a prestigious, large-scale organisation headquartered in Hertfordshire. This is a business with significant market presence, complex group structures, and the sophistication you'd expect from a listed environment. They're seeking an exceptional technical accounting professional to join their high-performing finance function.

The Opportunity

This is a genuinely autonomous role for someone who wants to be
the
technical authority. You'll have the intellectual freedom to shape accounting policy, author position papers, and provide definitive guidance on complex IFRS matters. If you're tired of having your technical judgement second-guessed, this role offers the trust and autonomy you deserve.

You'll be the trusted advisor to senior leadership and the Audit Committee, owning the narrative on technical accounting positions and ensuring the business maintains best-in-class reporting standards.

What You'll Be Doing

Technical Authority & Decision-Making

• Own the technical accounting agenda - you'll consult, conclude, and communicate positions on complex IFRS matters
• Author technical position papers and memoranda for executive leadership and Audit Committee consumption
• Establish and maintain the definitive source of accounting policy documentation across the group
• Provide real-time technical consultancy to business units, finance teams, and commercial stakeholders

Audit & External Reporting Leadership

• Lead technical dialogue with external auditors - you'll be their primary technical contact
• Drive resolution on complex accounting positions, defending and articulating technical conclusions
• Own critical annual processes including impairment testing frameworks and going concern assessments

Standards Implementation & Advisory

• Lead implementation of emerging standards with particular focus on sustainability reporting (IFRS S1/S2, CSRD)
• Assess business impact of new pronouncements and guide implementation roadmaps
• Provide technical accounting oversight on M&A, restructuring, and major commercial contracts

Knowledge Leadership

• Develop technical capability across the finance community through training and knowledge-sharing
• Elevate the technical sophistication of the wider team through coaching and mentorship
• Manage and develop a qualified accountant within your function

What We're Looking For

Essential Experience:

• ACA qualified from a Top 10 firm
  (CIMA ACA considered with demonstrable listed/large corporate experience)
• Significant technical accounting experience within a
  listed company, large corporate group, or Big 4 advisory
• Proven IFRS 16 implementation experience
• you've been hands-on with lease accounting at scale
• Management experience - you've led people and influenced senior stakeholders
• Track record of
  leading audit relationships
  and negotiating technical positions with external auditors
• Experience
  writing technical accounting papers, position memos, and Audit Committee materials

The Right Profile:

• You've worked in environments where technical rigour matters - listed entities, PE-backed platforms, or complex group structures
• You're intellectually confident - comfortable taking a position and defending it to auditors and senior management
• You're a natural communicator who can make the complex simple without dumbing it down
• You want genuine autonomy and the opportunity to shape technical accounting strategy
• You're ambitious but pragmatic - commercial awareness balanced with technical excellence
