Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and adaptable Locum Breast Surgery Consultant to provide expert surgical care in a dynamic healthcare environment. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in breast surgery, including perioperative management, patient assessment, and advanced imaging interpretation. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to patient-centered care within a multidisciplinary team, supporting both inpatient and outpatient services. The position requires proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems, medical imaging modalities, and clinical research protocols. Flexibility to work across various settings and collaborate with specialties such as oncology, radiology, and plastic surgery is essential. This is a temporary assignment designed to ensure continuous quality care delivery during staffing gaps or increased patient volume.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive breast surgical procedures, including diagnostic biopsies, lumpectomies, mastectomies, and reconstructive interventions.
  • Conduct thorough preoperative assessments and develop individualized care plans aligned with best practices and patient preferences.
  • Manage perioperative care, including pre- and post-operative evaluations, pain management, wound care, and discharge planning.
  • Interpret medical imaging such as mammography, ultrasound, MRI, and CT scans relevant to breast pathology.
  • Utilize EHR systems like Epic or EMR platforms for documentation, order entry, and clinical decision support.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, and nursing staff to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
  • Participate in clinical research initiatives related to breast surgery advancements or new treatment modalities.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain meticulous medical records in accordance with hospital standards.
  • Provide patient education on surgical procedures, postoperative care, and risk management strategies.
  • Engage in telehealth consultations when appropriate to extend specialist services beyond traditional settings.

Qualifications

  • Medical degree from an accredited institution with board certification or eligibility in General Surgery or Surgical Oncology.
  • Proven experience in breast surgery within a hospital setting; prior work in Level I or Level II trauma centers is advantageous.
  • Proficiency with electronic health record systems such as Epic or similar platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of medical imaging interpretation related to breast pathology (mammography, ultrasound, MRI).
  • Familiarity with perioperative care protocols and advanced surgical techniques including suturing and aseptic procedures.
  • Experience working across diverse specialties such as oncology, radiology (interventional radiology), cardiology (vascular interventional radiography), neurology (neurocritical care), or pediatrics is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Ability to perform clinical evaluations involving vital signs assessment, physical examinations, and patient assessments accurately.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams and patient education.
  • Valid medical license to practice in the relevant jurisdiction; ability to pass credentialing processes required by the facility.
