Head of Short-Term Trading – GB & ISEM Markets (Asset-Backed Power Trading)

Location:
UK (Hybrid working, Monday to Friday)

A leading energy trading organisation is seeking an experienced Head of Short-Term Trading to co-lead its 24/7 trading function, focused on the GB and ISEM power markets. This is a key leadership role within a growing and well-capitalized business, responsible for driving performance across asset-backed trading activities and supporting the optimization of a diverse generation portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Co-head the short-term trading desk covering GB and ISEM markets, ensuring optimal trading performance and commercial delivery.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of shift and day traders.
  • Oversee trading and optimization of asset-backed positions.
  • Collaborate closely with analytics, operations, and asset management teams to enhance trading strategies and decision-making.
  • Provide leadership on market strategy, risk management, and team development initiatives.
  • Support the evolution of trading systems, automation, and data-led optimization approaches.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience in short-term power trading within the GB and/or ISEM markets.
  • Strong understanding of asset-backed trading, ideally with exposure to BESS (battery storage) or CCGT operations.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within a trading environment, with the ability to manage and inspire a high-performing team.
  • Excellent commercial acumen, decision-making, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving trading environment.
  • No shift work required — standard working hours, Monday to Friday, with hybrid flexibility.
