The Assystem Safety & Risk business unit has over 20 years' experience, delivering bespoke, high-quality safety, risk, and reliability consultancy services to high-hazard industries. We help our clients to minimise risk, delivering improved safety and security and fostering a nuclear safety and risk aware culture. Assystem Safety & Risk delivers an integrated and cost-effective service that includes Safety Case, Human & Organisational Factors (HOF), Risk & Reliability (Including Probabilistic Safety Assessment), Security & Resilience, and Process Safety.

We use deterministic and probabilistic techniques to help our clients to assess the risk associated with facilities and activities and confirm that risks are reduced to a level that is As Low as Reasonably Practicable (ALARP).

Job Description

We are seeking a Senior HF Consultant on a permanent basis to play a key role in the continued growth and development of our established and highly successful Human and Organisational Factors team.

For this Senior HF position, we are looking for an individual who has a proven record of experience applying HF in the nuclear industry and is able to transition into HF projects in the Nuclear sector with relative ease.

We would expect the successful candidate to possess a good understanding of the Nuclear Safety Case and sound working knowledge of the process of HF Substantiation in relation to Safety Case claims.

Duties and accountabilities:

  • Take responsibility for the technical delivery of a variety of projects in multi-disciplinary teams delivering integrated Risk, Safety and Human Factors projects support to the nuclear industry.
  • Execute the following: Task Analyses (e.g. Hierarchical, Tabular), Human Error Identification and Assessment, Qualitative Human Reliability Assessment (HRA), Human-Machine Interface (HMI) assessment.
  • Provide expert understanding and practical experience in the integration of Human Factors to projects where safety and the mitigation of risk is paramount.
  • Produce project deliverables to a high standard.
  • Be trusted to work autonomously and manage projects (with technical oversight), engage with project stakeholders and manage client relationships.
  • Help develop team capability and provide training and mentoring for junior team members in the HF discipline.
  • Provide support to the wider business in terms of business development, project management, quality and compliance, marketing and knowledge sharing.

Qualifications
  • A degree or post graduate qualification in Human Factors or a related discipline, such as, psychology, engineering or industrial design.
  • CIEHF Registered Member status or equivalent or working towards chartership.
  • The right to work in the UK.

Skills, Knowledge and Understanding:

Essential:

  • An understanding of High Hazard Industry Safety Case Development.
  • A good understanding of a broad range of HF domains at a system-level and ability to apply them to scope out the HF needs of a project in support of technical delivery.
  • Applied experience of Human Reliability Assessment (i.e., Task Analyses, Qualitative HRA and Human Error Identification and Assessment).
  • Technical report writing skills to a high standard.
  • Commitment to quality.
  • The ability to effectively lead and manage projects.
  • Credible experience of managing and maintaining client and project stakeholder relationships.
  • The ability to and willingness to achieve Security Clearances in support of project requirements.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of common quantitative HRA techniques (e.g. HEART, THERP, NARA) will be particularly useful though not a pre-requisite.
  • Familiarity with Defence Standard Technical Guides.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
