Teaching Assistant SEND Apprenticeship - Oasis Academy Silvertown

Overview of role:

To work under the instruction/guidance of teaching/senior staff to undertake work/care/support programmes, to enable access to learning for pupils and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom. Work may be carried out in the classroom or outside the main teaching area, for specified periods of time.

You will be working in the Secondary School supporting students from Year 7 to Year 11.

Key details:

  • Hours: Monday to Friday (8am to 4pm), 37 hours per week
  • Term-time only (39 weeks per year)
  • Wage: £9.30 per hour
  • Location: 303 N Woolwich Rd, London E16 2BB

Apprenticeship details:

  • Qualification: Level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification 
  • Duration of course: 16 months
  • Training Provider: LMP Education (Rated No 1 Training Provider in the UK)
  • All learning delivered online/ remotely alongside role.

Full Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promote a positive culture within the Academy, ensuring diversity is recognized and respected.
  • Raise student achievement by developing outstanding Phase 1 practices in collaboration with class teachers.
  • Contribute to the Academy's vision, values, and aims while adhering to professional standards.
  • Assist with implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Education, Health Care Plans, and Pastoral Support Programmes (PSPs).
  • Support teachers in planning, delivering, and evaluating differentiated lessons.
  • Develop and adapt resources for identified students.
  • Work with small groups or individual students on literacy and numeracy support.
  • Listen to students read and observe their performance, reporting back to teachers.
  • Maintain student records and assist with reviewing IEPs and PSPs.
  • Support students during Academy and public exams.
  • Clear away materials after lessons.
  • Act as the Key Person for an assigned group, keeping records to inform planning and sharing progress with parents and staff.
  • Monitor and report student progress to parents under the class teacher's direction.
  • Assist in the physical management of students and encourage their independence and confidence.
  • Help with lunchtime clubs, attend to students in distress or accidents, and escort them on educational visits.
  • Foster positive relationships with parents and carers.
  • Attend training sessions, team meetings, and participate in the Performance Management process.
  • Complete routine administrative tasks as required.

Qualifications Requirements:

  • GCSE or equivalent (Functional skills) English (Grade 4) essential
  • GCSE or equivalent (Functional skills) Maths (Grade 4) essential
