Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
As one of the world's premier entertainment portfolios, Hayu EMEA Networks & Int'l Direct-to-Consumer delivers quality content and compelling brands to over 160 territories across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Asia Pacific. Delivering a full range of entertainment experiences to local audiences across the globe, the unique brands include UNIVERSAL TV, SYFY, E Entertainment Television, 13TH STREET, DIVA, Studio Universal, Telemundo, Bravo and DreamWorks. Universal+ (a hybrid linear and non-linear service) aggregates the group's brands on affiliate platforms, offering subscribers both live programming and an extensive range of compelling VOD content, including territory premieres and full box sets, available all in one place.
NBCU's direct-to-consumer activity outside the US includes Hayu, the all-reality SVOD service available in 45 territories – including the UK, Canada and across Europe and Asia Pacific.
Job DescriptionNBCUniversal is seeking an experienced and strategic Vice President of Commercial to lead carriage and distribution negotiations across EMEA and Canada for our direct-to-consumer products and our portfolio of channels. This role will oversee a high-performing team responsible for securing, structuring, and implementing commercial partnerships with key platform operators and distribution partners across the region.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in complex commercial negotiations, a deep understanding of streaming and app-based distribution models, and the ability to bridge commercial and technical conversations to ensure seamless implementation of partnership agreements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive growth for NBCUniversal's DTC products, particularly Hayu in 45 markets, through strategic partnerships with global and regional platform operators.
- Lead, manage and execute carriage and renewal negotiations for NBCUniversal's linear channels and direct-to-consumer services across EMEA.
- Develop and execute commercial strategies that maximize revenue, audience reach, and platform visibility across traditional and digital distribution channels.
- Collaborate closely with technical, product, and operations teams to ensure the commercial and technical requirements of deals are fully aligned and successfully executed.
- Oversee the commercial aspects of deal implementation, ensuring seamless launch and ongoing delivery across platforms.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders at major operators, platforms, and distributors.
- Lead, motivate, and develop a team of commercial professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Partner with finance, legal, and strategy teams to evaluate business cases, structure deals, and ensure compliance with corporate policies.
- Monitor global media market trends, emerging technologies, and competitor activity to inform NBCUniversal's commercial strategy and identify new growth opportunities.
- Act as a thought leader within the organization, influencing internal stakeholders and advocating for innovative distribution approaches to maximize reach and engagement
- Represent NBCUniversal at external meetings, industry events and partner engagements, reinforcing the company's position as a leader in media distribution.
Basic Requirements:
- Extensive experience in commercial distribution, partnership management, or business development within media, entertainment, or technology sectors.
- Proven success negotiating and closing complex carriage and/or streaming distribution deals across multiple territories.
- Strong understanding of the global DTC and OTT landscape, including app-based distribution models, subscription mechanics, and platform integrations.
- Technical fluency to bridge commercial and operational discussions, comfortable engaging with product and technology teams on implementation details.
- Exceptional leadership skills with experience managing, mentoring, and motivating teams.
- Excellent stakeholder management, influencing, and communication skills.
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical and financial acumen.
- Experience working within a large, matrixed global media organization preferred.
- Passion for the entertainment industry and a strong understanding of NBCUniversal's content and distribution ecosystem.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple projects and stakeholders while maintaining a focus on business priorities and execution excellence.
