JOB TITLE 1:1 Teaching Assistant
RESPONSIBLE TO: The SENDCO and class teacher
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To individually support the learning and personal development of a pupil who is currently under ADHD assessment to enable them to make best use of the educational opportunities available to them. To provide support in class, and at times to work out of class 1:1 on tasks.
SPECIFIC DETAILS:
- 25 hours per week – (5 hours per day), term time only.
- Commencing ASAP
- 08:30 and 14:00 – Monday to Friday, half an hour unpaid lunch break.
- Some experience of working with children with SEN would be desirable
- You will need to be able to move around the school to attend different lessons on different levels of the school.
- You need to be able to work at different levels, on the floor, standing and be comfortable both working inside the classroom and outside on the playground.
- Nurturing approach is essential
- Understand of Zones of Regulation an advantage
RATE OF PAY: £12.62 (£12,810 pro rata)
START DATE: As soon as possible

JOB DESCRIPTION
- To aid pupil to learn as effectively as possible both in group situations and on his/her own by, for example:
- Clarifying and explaining instructions
- Ensuring the pupil is able to use equipment and materials provided
- Motivating and encouraging the pupil(s) as required by providing levels of individual attention, reassurance and help with learning tasks as appropriate to pupil's needs
- Using praise, commentary and assistance to encourage the pupil to concentrate and stay on task
- Liaising with class teacher, SENDCO and other professionals about SEN Support Plans
- Helping to make appropriate resources to support the pupil
- To establish supportive relationships with the pupil concerned
- To adapt the curriculum to make it accessible
- Support the child with their behaviour and regulation of their emotions
- To promote the acceptance and inclusion of the pupil with SEN, encouraging pupils to interact with each other in an appropriate and acceptable manner
- Monitor the pupil's response to the learning activities and, where appropriate, modify or adapt the activities as agreed with the teacher to achieve the intended learning outcomes.
- To give positive encouragement, feedback and praise to reinforce and sustain the pupil(s) efforts and develop self-reliance and self-esteem.
- To mark pupil's work under the direction of the class teacher
- To actively engage with and interact with the child and the class
- To support the pupil in developing social skills both in and out of the classroom
- To support the use of ICT in learning activities
- To provide regular feedback on the pupil's learning and behaviour to the teacher/SENDCO, including feedback on the effectiveness of the behaviour strategies adopted
- To use the school's system for recording procedures
- To know and apply school policies on Safeguarding, Child Protection, Health and Safety, Behaviour, Teaching and Learning, Equal Opportunities etc
- Where appropriate to develop a relationship to foster links between home and school, and to keep the school informed of relevant information
- To liaise with parents about progress and about any issues that need sharing
- To work to keep the child safe in school
- To be aware of confidential issues linked to home/pupil/teacher/school
- To contribute towards reviews of pupil(s)' progress as appropriate
- To undergo any other reasonable request by the headteacher that is related to this role or the teaching and learning of other pupils in the school
