The Impact of a Sr. External Communications Manager at Coupa:
Coupa is transforming how businesses spend smarter — and as we expand our influence across EMEA and APAC, we are seeking a Sr Manager of External Communications who will help shape how the world sees and understands that transformation.
Reporting to the VP of Global Communications, this leader will serve as Coupa's primary communications strategist and storyteller across international markets — responsible for elevating our brand reputation, driving media visibility, amplifying customer and partner success, and reinforcing Coupa's leadership in AI and spend management innovation.
The ideal candidate is proactive, globally minded, and passionate about storytelling that connects business outcomes with human impact. They will thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and bring deep experience building relationships with top-tier media, analysts, and partners across the region. What You'll Do:
  • Regional Communications Planning: Develop and execute an integrated communications plan aligned with Coupa's global narrative and business priorities in key growth markets. Localize global messaging to ensure it resonates across prioritized international markets, adapting content for cultural, linguistic, and business nuances. Note: there is a globalization and  translation team to support regional efforts in non-english languages.
  • Media Relations & Thought Leadership: Build and maintain strong relationships with key journalists, editors, and influencers across business, technology, and industry outlets. Identify opportunities to showcase Coupa executives, customers, and partners in earned media, speaking engagements, and thought leadership platforms. Draft and review press materials, bylines, op-eds, and Q&As to ensure consistent and compelling storytelling.
  • Campaign Integration with Regional Field Marketing and Functional Teams: Collaborate closely to amplify customer success stories, launches, and go-to-market partnerships. Showcase customer impact through media placements, digital storytelling, and event visibility — reinforcing the value and reach of the Coupa ecosystem. Support regional events and conferences (e.g., Coupa Inspire, industry summits) with executive visibility, media engagement, and thought leadership programming.
  • Agency & Stakeholder Management: Lead and guide EMEA PR agencies, ensuring clear priorities, measurable outcomes, and strategic alignment with global objectives. Collaborate with global marketing, partner/alliance, product, legal, and sales teams to ensure message consistency and integrated storytelling.
  • Measurement & Insights: Track and analyze media performance, sentiment, and share of voice across EMEA markets. Provide insights and recommendations to continuously enhance regional strategy and strengthen Coupa's external reputation.
What You Will Bring to Coupa:
  • 12 years of experience in corporate or external communications, ideally within B2B SaaS, enterprise software, or AI-driven industries
  • Deep understanding of the EMEA media landscape and proven success building relationships with regional business, tech, and trade outlets
  • Demonstrated ability to create compelling narratives that drive awareness, influence perception, and support business growth
  • Experience in partner and ecosystem communications, including co-marketing or joint storytelling initiatives
  • Excellent writing, editing, and messaging skills — able to distill complex technology and business topics into clear, engaging content
  • Proven experience managing crisis and issue communications
  • Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills across global, matrixed organizations
  • Experience managing agencies and executing multi-market PR campaigns
  • Analytical mindset with experience tracking media metrics and communications performance
  • Bonus: Experience with AI or emerging technology communications; multilingual fluency; prior experience in publicly traded or rapidly scaling organizations
