Calderdale is a vibrant metropolitan borough nestled in the heart of the Yorkshire Pennines, ideally located between Manchester and Leeds.

We are currently seeking to appoint a Practice Manager to lead and supervise a dedicated team of Social Workers within our Disabled Children's Team. If you are a passionate and experienced social work professional looking to take the next step in your career, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

In Calderdale, we are proud to work within a systemic model of practice, underpinned by a positive and collaborative culture. Our Disabled Children's Team is committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for children and young people with disabilities and their families.

The team supports children and young people aged 0 to 18 who are subject to Child in Need or Child Protection Plans, are Children Looked After, or are involved in Public Law Outline (PLO), court proceedings, transition to adulthood. The team comprises both Social Workers and Occupational Therapists, and we work closely with colleagues in Learning Disability Nursing, Special Educational Needs (SEN), and the Adult Autism and Neurodiversity Team.

As the Practice Manager, you will be responsible for providing high-quality, reflective supervision to Social Workers and for supporting the Team Manager in the overall leadership, quality assurance, and management of staff and resources. You will play a key role in modelling and promoting best practice, ensuring a child-centred, strengths-based approach that delivers positive outcomes for children and families.

The successful candidate will be an experienced, qualified Social Worker with current registration with Social Work England. They will have post-qualifying experience in children's statutory social work, a strong understanding of working with children, young people, and families, and a good working knowledge of legislation relevant to children and young people. They will also be committed to fostering a culture of continuous improvement, learning, and reflective practice, and be passionate about working collaboratively with children, families, and multi-agency partners.

If you are ready to make a meaningful impact and lead a team of social workers dedicated to improving the lives of disabled children and young people in Calderdale, we would love to hear from you.

For an informal discussion about this role, please contact Alex Greenwood via email at or by telephone on

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. Applicants to posts that are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act will require a DBS from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed.
