Northumberland County Council is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, highly motivated and fully qualified Environmental Health Officer to join our Public Protection Service (Pollution Control) Team.

The Public Protection Service is based within the Public Health, Inequalities & Stronger Communities directorate. With 14 officers, the Pollution Control Team's areas of responsibility include: noise and statutory nuisance, air quality, smoke control, contaminated land, permitting of industrial sites, regulation of private water supplies and consultee to planning and licensing departments. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of statutory services which seek to protect the environment and public health across the county.

The Role

The post is based in the noise and nuisance team. You will be responsible for case management of a varied workload including the investigation of noise and statutory nuisance complaints, responding to service requests and enquiries, conducting inspections and investigations and taking appropriate enforcement action.

The successful candidate should have experience in a pollution control specialism and relevant experience of regulatory enforcement. You will be an excellent team player with strong verbal and written communication skills and be able to competently organise and prioritise complex casework, both routine and reactive.

Requirements of the job

Successful candidates will:

  • Hold a relevant degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Health
  • Have an EHRB Certificate of Registration (or equivalent)
  • Ideally possess significant post-qualification experience in pollution control supported by relevant CPD
  • Have a full driving licence, valid in the UK.

The post is based in Cramlington but will require travel throughout the County. Applicants must be able to meet the transport requirements of the role and as such have a valid UK driving licence.
