Basic Purpose and Function
Management of all HSE related activity on the Cramlington site and ensuring the company is compliant with all relevant health, safety, environmental and energy legislation. Maintain knowledge of all current and pending HSE legislation and responsible for developing, updating and implementing policies and management systems to ensure that Company practice and individual responsibilities are compliant with this. Maintain and manage local and corporate HSE systems and records and work with the QHSE Manager to set meaningful objectives for the business in the field of HSE. To conduct training in relevant health, safety and environmental matters for all employees, ensuring that that they are able to work within the bounds of legislative, corporate and local requirements. To liaise with the enforcing authorities and to maintain a good working relationship with them. To carry out the responsibilities of Management Representative required by ISO 14001, ISO 45001/PPC and the Company's Environmental System and to support the effective operation of ISO 50001. Ensure the safe evacuation of all personnel in any major incident and assist in the investigation to establish the cause and prevent a recurrence.
Manage, report and improve the company's performance in the field of HSE.

Position Dimensions (Scope) (e.g. reporting structure, personnel responsibility, decision-making authority, budget responsibility)
The incumbent has a direct line of responsibility to the QHSE Manager. Has the authority to address non-conformances relating to HSE that may require immediate improvement or corrective action, including the authority to issue a Stop Work instruction.

Contacts (internal/external)
Daily interaction with members of the management team, workshop supervisors and employees. Has direct contact with the HSE Co-ordinator for Europe who is based in Erembodegem. Direct contact with all other local HSE Co-ordinators in Europe. External contacts include Health and Safety Executive, the Local Environmental Authority, Trading Standards, and other relevant official bodies

Other (travel, working conditions unusual work schedules
The HSE Officer represents the company at all European Health, Safety and Environmental Co-ordinators meetings held at various European venues. Normal hours are envisaged, with an occasional need to work outwith in line with business needs.

Skills (manual, self expression, planning, organizing)
Good oral and written communicator with all levels in the organisation, with ability to engage and drive HSE matters in a non-confrontational, collaborative way, whilst retaining the ability to enforce where necessary. Positive proactive attitude to all relevant health, safety and environmental matters. Ability to design and carry out HSE training for all staff and hourly paid employees. Lead by example at all times. Capable of implementing cultural change.

Education/Experience (minimum required)
Minimum qualification of a Diploma in Safety and Environmental Management, and a graduate member of IOSH. Minimum of ten years' experience in the field of HSE and have a proven track record of industrial experience in the HSE function. Must have experience of HSE management systems which comply with ISO 14001 & 45001. Qualified Lead Auditor is desired.
