Job description

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) is a major organisation whose services reach into every household in the UK and is recognised as a government leader in its drive to embrace the digital age.

We are looking to recruit a Senior Infrastructure Engineer EMAS to join our team at Information Technology Services (ITS).

An Infrastructure Engineer designs, builds, manages, and supports the infrastructure services that underpin all internal user services and services to the public. Working in a team of infrastructure specialists and engineers, a Senior Infrastructure Engineer builds, administers, supports and maintains solutions as directed and according to departmental policy.

In this role you will primarily look after the applications and tooling, whilst managing and monitoring the infrastructure. Collecting data and sharing this with Service Management.

Your responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:

  • Ensuring services are integrated, delivered, and operated as required.
  • Working with and supporting third parties in providing infrastructure services.
  • Working with technical architects to translate architectural designs into operations.

Required experience:

To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:

  • You will bring a wealth of experience, enthusiasm, and a proactive mindset, coupled with a strong willingness to both share knowledge and embrace new technologies.
  • You will have proven expertise in managing enterprise-level tools such as BMC TrueSight Operations Management, Capacity Optimisation, and Server Automation. Additionally, you will be familiar with ITSM platforms including BMC Discovery and ServiceNow.
  • Your background will include strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organisation. You will also demonstrate excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities, along with the initiative to proactively identify and address emerging issues.
  • Exceptional communication skills are essential, with the ability to adapt your messaging to suit a variety of audiences.
  • You will be a highly motivated self-starter, confident in working independently and driving tasks forward with minimal supervision.

Additional Information

Working hours, office attendance and travel requirements

Full time roles consist of 37 hours per week. Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement for the successful candidate to be able to work at least 30 hours per week.

This role is suitable for hybrid working, which is a non-contractual arrangement where a combination of workplace and home-based working can be accommodated subject to business requirements.

The expectation at present is a minimum of 60% of your working time a month will be spent at either your designated workplace (one of the locations cited in the advert) or, when required for business reasons, in another office/work location. There may be occasions where you are required to attend above the minimum expectation.
