About the roleWe are looking for a highly motivated manager to join our research team to support our work in East Africa and beyond.
You will be based in London but will have regular trips to Uganda and Kenya.
The East Africa Programme Research Manager will support two key senior researchers you will be supporting at based in Kenya and lead a portfolio of research across a number of common conditions (malaria, sickle cell disease, sepsis) in African children.
Our work has led to changes in guidelines saving thousands of lives every year. Your role as a dedicated member of the team to support our research will be fulfilling.

What you would be doingDuties and responsibilities
- We would like you to be the first point of contact for the East Africa Programme and other research programmes for the two senior academics funded via Imperial.
- You will need to ensure the delivery of projects milestones, deliverables, schedule, and budgetary requirements.
- Assist with developing budgets for new grant applications and provide input in the annual reporting of grants
- Work alongside colleagues on programme management and other duties, as and when required.
- Help in the recruitment and interviewing of new staff.
- Travel when required to the sites to provide support for different collaborating partners for the setup, monitoring logistically.
- Be actively involved in setting up teleconferences and assist with preparing and circulation of the meetings minutes
- For the research programme in Uganda, you will require to be fully engaged with operational management and to ensure due diligence compliance.
- To have the management qualification/certification
- Strong practical experience of managing budgets and budgeting
- To have previous experience working within African countries
- Technical Report writing skills
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- To have some experience of managing projects in multiple large organizations
- Ability to deal with a wide range of people in an appropriate manner
- Willingness to travel to Africa
- Flexible attitude towards work
