Head of Technical – Structural Waterproofing & Gas Protection

Spencer Richardson are proudly supporting our client in seeking a visionary leader to drive technical excellence in the construction sector.

The appointed Head of Technical will lead the technical team in the design, specification, and compliance of substructure waterproofing systems and gas protection membranes. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to influence industry standards, guide complex projects, and ensure structures are protected for generations.

A CSSW qualification (Certified Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing) is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead with authority
    : Be the central voice for all technical matters in waterproofing and gas membrane systems.
  • Set the standard
    : Provide expert guidance aligned with BS 8102:2022, BS 8485, CIRIA C735, and beyond.
  • Create impact
    : Develop technical literature, CAD details, and specification guides that shape industry practice.
  • Collaborate & influence
    : Work with clients, contractors, and consultants to ensure flawless design execution.
  • Quality assurance
    : Review drawings and specifications to guarantee seamless integration of solutions.
  • Risk management
    : Contribute to RAMS and ensure projects are delivered safely and effectively.
  • Stay ahead
    : Keep your finger on the pulse of regulations, innovations, and emerging technologies.
  • Educate & inspire
    : Deliver CPD sessions, workshops, and training to elevate knowledge across the industry.
  • Drive innovation
    : Partner with manufacturers and suppliers to push boundaries in system performance.
  • Continuous improvement
    : Lead the evolution of technical processes, systems, and documentation.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven expertise in substructure waterproofing and gas membrane system design.
  • Deep knowledge of UK standards (BS 8102, BS 8485, CIRIA).
  • Experience leading and mentoring technical teams.
  • Strong communication skills — confident in reports, presentations, and client interactions.
  • Skilled in interpreting architectural and structural drawings.
  • Innovative problem-solver with a sharp eye for detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and technical drawing software.

Desirable Requirements

  • CSSW qualification.
  • Experience delivering CPD seminars or technical training.
  • Knowledge of gas risk assessments and ventilation design.
