About the role

St Christopher's Hospice is seeking a passionate and organised Community Support Programme Coordinator to join our Community Action Team. This role focuses on supporting people in our community who are living with loss, grief, or caring responsibilities.

You'll coordinate our Bereavement Buddies and Carer Champions initiatives, helping to match volunteers with community members, while also developing and peer-support groups. Your work will seek to empower people to feel more confident and supported when facing end-of-life experiences and will strengthen community-led networks of care.

What you'll do

  • Coordinate one-to-one matching projects, connecting trained volunteers with those needing support.
  • Organise and support volunteers to facilitate peer groups for community members experiencing end of life challenges.
  • Deliver and support training for volunteers.
  • Recruit and support new volunteers, ensuring they feel part of an active, supportive community.
  • Build relationships with local groups and organisations to promote our initiatives.
  • Monitor impact and share learning to improve services and expand reach.

About you

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in coordinating projects (ideally within community, health, or social care settings).
  • Skilled in engaging with people experiencing bereavement, caring responsibilities, or other sensitive life events.
  • Confident in delivering training, facilitating groups, and supporting volunteers.
  • Compassionate, empathetic, and able to hold challenging conversations sensitively.
  • A strong communicator who enjoys working collaboratively with colleagues, volunteers, and community partners.
