About Us

Home-Start Ashford & District is a local charity dedicated to supporting families with young children across Ashford, Tenterden, and the surrounding villages. We work alongside families to help them overcome challenges, build resilience, and create nurturing home environments where children can thrive.

We're looking for a dynamic and dedicated Family Support Worker to join our small, friendly team.

About the Role

As a Family Support Worker, you will provide short-term, intensive support to families in their homes and in the community. You'll work with parents to assess their needs, develop support plans, and empower them to achieve their goals.

This role requires travel across the Ashford and Tenterden area. Some evening or weekend work may be required but the majority of your hours will be during school time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one emotional and practical support to families with young children.
  • Assess family needs and develop tailored support plans.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and other professionals and agencies to ensure joined-up support.
  • Keep accurate and confidential records in line with Home-Start policies.
  • Promote the safety and wellbeing of children and families at all times.

About You

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience working with families and/or children in a supportive role.
  • Understand the challenges and pressures that parenting can bring.
  • Demonstrate empathy, sensitivity, and a non-judgemental attitude.
  • Have strong communication and listening skills.
  • Be reliable, organised, and confident in maintaining confidentiality and effective safeguarding practice.
  • Have good IT skills and the ability to manage basic record-keeping.
  • Hold a current driving licence and have access to a car.

A warm, approachable personality and a good sense of humour are essential

  • Location: Hybrid working across Ashford, Tenterden, and surrounding villages
  • Start date: Monday 5th January 2026
