Gardener with an interest in wildlife conservation

Starting salary up to £28,500k per annum depending on qualifications & experience. Full-time (40 hours pw; Mon-Fri 8am-4pm).

The role comprises a range of practical tasks including:

-maintaining wildflower meadows;

-pruning shrubs & herbaceous plants;

-annual & perennial weed management;

-planting trees, shrubs & herbaceous plants;

-propagation by seed;

-maintaining ponds for wildlife;

-assisting with butterfly monitoring;

-using garden machinery eg. pedestrian & ride-on mowers, hedge-cutter, leaf-blower;

-assisting with cut flower production for the house;

-occasional support in the kitchen garden.

The position would suit someone with:

-an energetic & strong work ethic and a willingness to learn;

-a passion for trees, plants, and wildlife conservation;

-an ability to be adaptable.

This role is physical in nature and requires you to work in all weather conditions. You will have a keen eye for detail, great observational skills, and an appreciation of aesthetics in a garden.

For the right candidate there would be a package of work-based training (including brushcutter, use of ATV, first aid).

Candidates will need to have:

-Ideally 3-5 years hands-on experience within the gardening sector;

-Proven horticultural skills;

-Knowledge of native as well as ornamental plants;

-Embrace an ecological approach to gardening;

-Candidates must have a full, clean UK driving licence.

This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic and enthusiastic Gardener to join the Garden Team in the day to day running of the gardens and grounds on a beautiful 1500-acre family estate near Chippenham.

You'll work closely within a team of ten to ensure that the gardens, parkland, ponds, meadows, kitchen garden & habitat projects are maintained to a high standard, and are managed sympathetically to enhance and conserve biodiversity.

You will be required to communicate effectively with the wider estate team and estate owners, so a professional attitude is important. Good written and verbal communication skills are essential.
