Pastoral Support Officer
About The Role
Teach Now is recruiting a compassionate and proactive Pastoral Support Officer to join a welcoming and high-achieving secondary school in Dacorum, Hertfordshire.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting students' wellbeing, attendance, and personal development — ensuring every young person feels supported, valued, and ready to succeed.
Working closely with Heads of Year, you'll help manage the day-to-day pastoral care of students, build strong relationships across the school community, and act as a trusted point of contact for pupils who may need guidance or support.
This is a full-time role, though there may be flexibility for candidates unable to work during the final period of the day. You will, however, need to be available for Breakfast Club duties each morning.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily support to Heads of Year in managing behaviour, attendance, and wellbeing
- Build positive, professional relationships with students to promote engagement and motivation
- Support interventions and mentoring for pupils requiring additional pastoral care
- Liaise with parents, staff, and external agencies to ensure consistent support for students
- Contribute to a safe, respectful, and nurturing school environment where every child can thrive
About You
We're looking for someone who:
- Has experience working with secondary-age students, ideally in a pastoral or inclusion role
- Demonstrates excellent communication, empathy, and organisational skills
- Can stay calm and solution-focused under pressure
- Understands safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Is committed to promoting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
Experience within education is desirable, but candidates from youth work, social care, or mentoring backgrounds are also encouraged to apply.
Why Join This School
This supportive and forward-thinking Hertfordshire school is committed to helping students achieve their best — academically, socially, and personally. Staff are valued for their contribution to the whole-school ethos, with a strong culture of collaboration and care.
You'll benefit from:
- A close-knit and supportive pastoral team (you'll be joining three others in the department)
- Ongoing professional development and mentoring
- A positive, community-focused environment where wellbeing is prioritised
- Excellent transport links and modern facilities
