About The Role

I am seeking a Senior Materials Planner to lead my clients materials planning function at their Thirsk facility on a perm basis. In this pivotal role, you will ensure the seamless flow of components and consumables to support production, working closely with procurement, engineering, production, logistics, and suppliers. Your focus will be on optimising inventory, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring production reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Expedite and reschedule open orders to meet production requirements
  • Challenge purchasing agreements to optimise orders, including transport schedules, minimum order quantities, and firm windows
  • Source suppliers for new projects, supporting R&D and project teams
  • Maintain responsibility for stock value
  • Analyse historical purchasing and sales data to support better decision-making
  • Manage Supplier Relationship Management and monitor supplier performance
  • Contribute to departmental strategies for inventory, new product introductions, and product phase-outs
  • Understand supply chain integration touch points from supplier through manufacturing
  • Collaborate with MPS planners to understand forecast drivers
  • Analyse and manage supply chain risks
  • Ensure inbound transport is utilised efficiently
  • Support productivity improvements through effective MRP control
  • Work with production to establish effective Kanban levels of raw materials on production cells
  • Collaborate with warehouse supervisors on stock levels
  • Attend daily logistics meetings to aid prioritisation and coordination

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years' experience in materials planning or supply chain roles, ideally in FMCG or manufacturing; supervisory or lead planner experience preferred
  • Proficient in MRP/ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and advanced Excel skills
  • Strong understanding of BOMs, lead times, MOQs, inventory optimisation, lean methodologies, and NPI support
  • Excellent analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate with suppliers and colleagues
