SWGR are looking to strengthen our senior management team with the introduction of a Senior Area Business Manager for the Lancs, Cumbria and Manchester region of the Northwest. The role is based in our Warrington office and is 9am until 5pm Monday-Thursday then 9am until 3:45pm on Friday with a 45-minute lunch break each day.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • To manage the performance of the Zone managers appointed under your structure. This will include KPI performance and addressing any areas of non-performance with corrective actions. The objectives afforded must be smart and aligned to SWGR values and contractual commitments and client expectations.
  • To explore/plan and implement growth of the business unit that you are responsible for. This will include but will not be limited to multi skilling operatives to support greater deployment - new frameworks where skilled labour activity is required - securing new clients such as first tier organisations.
  • To recruit and retain good quality staff in order to meet and satisfy the requirements of the client and internal company resource requirements.
  • Recommend existing staff for promotion and organise the appropriate training/testing/assessment to ensure they can carry out their new responsibilities competently.
  • Deal effectively with all grievance and disciplinary issues in conjunction with the support of the HR manager to ensure that all company standards and values are maintained.
  • Host and deliver safety stand downs, as and when required, in conjunction with other relevant managers to communicate company information and policies to the workforce and to resolve any issues that may prevail.
  • Ensure all SWGR personnel (Zone managers) have been issued with and trained in using the correct equipment and PPE to enable them to carry out the designated work in a safe manner.
  • If required, the post holder will be expected to undertake site duties to ensure that we are able to meet and satisfy the requirements of the clients.
  • To deputise for the other Area senior Business Unit Manager as and when required.

Essential:

  • In depth knowledge of rail industry
  • Previous experience in a leadership position including contract management
  • Previous experience in building client relationships and delivering business growth
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations
  • UK Driving Licence
