Operations Manager – Coatbridge (ML5 4EG)
Henry Colbeck Ltd services over 2,500 customers across independent Fast Food, with a focus on Fish & Chips, Food Processors and Used Cooking Oil collection and processing.

We have an excellent opportunity for an Operations Manager to join our team based in Coatbridge.
Responsible for the overall management and performance of Operations at our Coatbridge depot (c. 26,000 Sq ft) and providing support to the Operations Management team at our Gateshead depot (c. 41,000 Sq ft).
Direct Reports include the Transport and Warehouse Management teams.
We operate two fixed shifts within our Warehouse with the Picking shift operating Sunday night through to Thursday night, picking and loading our own fleet of vehicles to deliver to customers Monday to Friday. Many customers receiving multiple deliveries each week.
This multi-faceted, hands on role includes: -
· Leading and motivating staff
· Managing budgets and resources
· Ensuring smooth daily operations
· Leading a strong Health and Safety culture and ensuring compliance to Health & Safety, Food Hygiene and environmental legislation and best practise.
· Ensuring ongoing compliance with our Quality Management System and 3rd Party accreditations
· Driving continuous improvements in customer service levels, OTIF, productivity, efficiency and profitability
THE DETAILS:
- Shift Pattern: Monday-Friday - 08:00-18:00
- Hours: Based on 45 Hours Per Week
- Holiday entitlement 22 days per year plus 8 days statutory. Rising to 25 days after qualifying period of service
- Salary: Competitive
- Location: Based at Coatbridge (ML5 4EG) but with regular visits to Gateshead (NE11 0HG)
Key Responsibilities and accountabilities will include, but are not limited to: -
- Assume full responsibility for day to day management of the operational departments
- Maximise the performance of the operation against set KPI's and act as a point of contact for our customers whilst identifying potential opportunities
- Preparing and submitting various KPI reports across transport /warehouse
- Proactive management of health and safety ensuring employee wellbeing in accordance with company guidelines.
- Manage and maintain the Transport Fleet ensuring that all associated operations are compliant and meet legal requirements.
- Oversee and coordination the planning of routes and schedules, ensuring collections and deliveries reach their destinations safely, on time and in the most cost-effective manner.
- Management, control and reporting of departmental costs, monitoring of department resources In line with financial target ensuring achievement of department budgetary targets.
- Support the maintenance of stock accuracy and minimising stock loss through investigation and resolution of errors.
- Use trend analysis to identify issues and areas of potential loss, ensuring all corrective actions are applied in line with quality management processes.
- Liaison with our dedicated Sales teams to ensure sales and service opportunities are maximised.
- Continue to review proposed and forthcoming changes to legislation and best practice.
- Effectively manage time sensitive deliveries and collections of products meeting critical schedules.
- Provide incident support relating to operational system failures, investigate, address and communicate updates in order to deliver the required standards.
WHAT YOU NEED
- Proven Transport/Warehouse Manager with experience of managing people and Customers
- Hold a Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)
- Professional and efficient approach to challenging situations
- Work experience at management level in a relevant industry e.g. Wholesales and Distribution, preferably of multi-temperature Food
- Detailed understanding of relevant legislation in transport and Health & Safety
- Ability to prioritise, manage a varied workload and support decisions making
- Well-developed understanding of WMS and pick and pack technologies.
- IOSH desirable
