Bradford, United Kingdom Incommunities Full time

Location: Remote, Yorkshire and Humberside Application Deadline: 31st December 2025 How to Apply: CV & Supporting statement sent to Hannah Smith (hannahsmith@neemarsearch.com) Remuneration: £6,825 a year (approximately 2 days a month) Introduction Incommunities is one of the largest housing associations in the West Yorkshire region, providing over 22,000 homes to individuals and families across Bradford and West Yorkshire. Guided by our purpose, to provide high quality homes, services and support to our customers, we are a values-driven organisation placing customers at the heart of everything we do. The roles We are seeking to appoint new Non-Executive Directors to join our Board - one specifically focused on practical Asset Management expertise, and another with experience in how digital transformation can transform the customer experience. There are a minimum of 2 vacancies on the Board but we may potentially make a third appointment for candidates with Housing Finance experience. All board members play a vital part in helping shape Incommunities’ future as a safe, sustainable, and digitally enabled housing organisation. Each Non-Executive Director will sit on one or more Board Committees (no more than 2)- such as Development & Assets or Customer Experience Committee - and provide strategic oversight, support and challenge across key areas of our business. Role 1: Non-Executive Director – Asset Management This role will bring strategic insight into the management, investment and safety of our homes and communities. You will: Provide oversight of building safety, regulatory compliance, procurement, and the delivery of our Asset Management Strategy 2024–2029, ensuring robust assurance is received from management and auditors. Support and challenge management to ensure appropriate investment and compliance with key legislation, including the Building Safety Act, Awaab’s Law, and fire safety requirements. Guide strategic decisions on stock condition, regeneration, and sustainability, contributing to our long‑term transition to Net Zero. Contribute to the prioritisation of investment by applying an understanding of asset lifecycles, risk management, and value for money principles. Provide independent strategic challenge and insight on asset management matters, ensuring effective governance in a regulated and asset-intensive environment. Role 2: Non-Executive Director – Digital & Customer Insight This role will focus on how technology and data can transform customer experience and organisational effectiveness. You will: Provide strategic challenges and guidance on digital transformation and innovation. Oversee and support the organisation’s approach to data governance, promoting effective use of customer and asset data and the development of a reliable “single source of truth” for insight‑led decision making. Support Board deliberation on the ethical and effective adoption of AI, automation, and digital engagement tools. Champion digital inclusion and accessibility, ensuring all communities can benefit from digital‑first services. Strengthen the Board’s focus on customer voice, user‑centric design, and service improvement through technology. Who they're looking for Non-Executive Directors will bring expertise in their respective fields and share our commitment to social purpose. For the Asset Management role Experience in asset management, compliance, regeneration, or capital investment. An understanding of building safety, stock investment and large‑scale programme delivery. Awareness of sustainability, Net Zero, and emerging housing technologies. For the Digital & Customer Insight role Experience leading or influencing digital change in a customer‑facing organisation. Understanding of data strategy, digital platforms (e.g. CRM, analytics) and customer experience design. Awareness of digital inclusion, user trust, and ethical data use. Across both roles, you will demonstrate: The ability to think strategically and challenge constructively in a governance setting. A collaborative, values‑led approach to Board work. A commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. You don’t need to tick every box or have the exact experience. What matters most is curiosity, a willingness to learn, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact for our customers in social housing. We’re looking for people who bring fresh thinking and ideally lived experience – different perspectives are what strengthens our Board. We welcome applications for both roles from across the housing, utilities, transport, healthcare, technology, retail and other customer‑focused or asset‑intensive sectors. First time Non-Executive Directors are welcome to apply. We can provide a board mentor if this is your first role. We welcome applicants from across the UK. As a local West Yorkshire housing provider, we would particularly welcome locally‑based candidates with a deep understanding of our communities. Diversity We want our Board to look and feel more like the communities we serve. That means we’re actively looking for people with different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. If you’ve had first‑hand experience of social housing, we’d really value what you have to say. If you’re from a younger age group, we’d love to hear from you too. We’d also especially welcome people from ethnically diverse backgrounds and disabled people, who are still underrepresented in most boardrooms. If you care about housing and want to make a difference, please consider applying. Your voice matters here. More information Time commitment: Approximately 2 days a month. This includes: Attendance at board meetings: circa 6 – 7 meetings per year, usually 4pm – 7pm on a Thursday and remote (MS Teams) with the exception of one meeting a year in‑person at the Quays, Shipley. Joining two subcommittees: two hours in duration – 4pm – 6pm: Development and Assets Committee (DAC) (5 meetings per year) Customer Experience Committee (CEC) (4 meetings per year) Audit and Risk Committee (ARC) (5 meetings per year). Sub‑committees are generally online but CEC has an in‑person annual away day and board away days are also in‑person. There may be the rare occasion i.e. once a year, that Committees or the Board decide to have a meeting in‑person. Attending the Board Strategy Away days twice a year (in person and one overnight stay). Reading and preparation time. Monthly board lunch and learn sessions (1 hour, online). NEDs are expected to commit sufficient time and an ongoing commitment to meet Board responsibilities. Term of appointment: two three year terms is the norm, but this is subject to reappointment from the Board after the first term of office. Location: Hybrid – as detailed in the Time Commitment above. Remote and in‑person in Quays, Shipley. Away‑days are off‑site and held locally in or around Bradford / Leeds.
