This post is based in York Hospital but regular travel to Scarborough hospital or other Trust bases will be required. The position is a full time, permanent Band 6 Skin Cancer Clinical Nurse post. Our successful candidate will be a Registered Nurse who can work autonomously within their scope of practice and of the job description, and support the team to deliver safe effective care to our patients. Our candidate will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work within a diverse multi-disciplinary group of clinicians, patients, and allied healthcare providers. You must be self-motivated, enthusiastic, organised, computer literate and able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with a commitment to continued personal development. Main duties of the job In this role you will: Provide a professional, proactive, and sensitive service to cancer patients and their relatives. Act as a main point of contact for patients, carers, and the wider healthcare team, to provide (in conjunction with the Cancer Care Coordinator), high quality patient care through proactive identification of needs which require a level of clinical knowledge utilising approved tools and procedures. Collaborate and communicate with the wider healthcare team, acting as a resource to ensure the provision of appropriate services to maximise the health and quality of life of the patient, improving the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery. Be responsible for the coordination of the administrative function within the complex cancer pathways, arranging investigations, appointments, and Multi-Disciplinary Team discussions in a timely manner, to ensure waiting time targets are not breached and patients' needs are met. Will be expected to manage and prioritise the running of the service and work flexibly to the needs of the service, which can often be demanding and unexpected. The post holder will provide specialist knowledge and information resources for multi-disciplinary staff, colleagues, patients, and families. You will also support the physical, emotional, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of the patient who has a diagnosis of a cancer. Person Specification Experience Experience at Band 5 or equivalent, within a specialty. Experience of undertaking Audit and Standard setting. Understanding of the local and national nursing agenda. Understanding of national guidance on Cancer pathways. Knowledge Knowledge of standards of professional practice. Knowledge of current issues within healthcare. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Qualifications & Training Registered Nurse (Level 1). Diploma level education or equivalent. Recognised teaching and assessing qualification. Evidence of continued professional development. Willing to undergo training as necessary. Working towards degree or equivalent. Non-medical prescriber.
