We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist post in the NYYS CAMHS Crisis team. Our locality-wide service provides young people under the age of 18 and their carers/families with access to 24/7 crisis support. Would consider condensed hours mainly Monday‑Friday with occasional weekends. This post will be based in York; however, you will be expected to travel around the locality/bases during your shift to provide clinical leadership and meet the clinical demand of the service. Therefore, it is essential that applicants can travel independently across the whole locality and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010. You will be able to claim for your work mileage incurred during your working day and have access to Team pool car. The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership to the service and contribute to service development. The candidate will work in partnership with the Team Manager and the other Clinical Nurse Specialist to provide consistent care across the locality, as well as working with the wider clinical and operational leadership teams across the care group. It is essential that the candidate can work autonomously and works well in a team. Main duties of the job Experienced in conduct psycho‑social assessment, risk assessments and robust safety plans for young people experiencing mental health crisis. You will lead a team of clinicians, supporting the co‑ordination of the shift, providing clinical direction to junior staff whilst maintaining clear clinical oversight across the locality. You will demonstrate good communication skills when dealing with young people, families, colleagues and other professionals from partner agencies ensuring that professional standards are maintained. Providing sound clinical decision in crisis situations to help reduce and manage the potential risk of harm. You will have extensive experience in mental health services and have knowledge of CAMHS, including a good understanding of relevant legislation (e.g. MHA, MCA, Children’s Act), detailed understanding of Safeguarding, Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice. In this leadership role you will conduct clinical audits to identify areas of good clinical practice and identify any learning. You will have the skills to feedback audit findings in a professional manner, to encourage an open and transparent culture to maximise any learning as a team and wider organisation. You will be skilled in conducting clinical supervisions with all staff. You will also attend leadership meeting/events to support service development/delivery. In this role you will develop good partnership working with external agencies by attending multi‑agency meetings offering expert support and guidance to colleagues in partner agencies for young people who present with complex and high‑risk behaviours. Job responsibilities We would consider a secondment into the post; however, candidate would need to have relevant permissions from there line manager. The candidate will have a post graduate qualification in a governed psychological therapy such as CBT, SFT, DBT. Or be willing to complete in first year. We are looking for someone with a professional registration in Nursing with a minimum of 2 years Band 6 experience, preferably in CAMHS. You will be offered a staff induction period where you will be supported to build on your knowledge and skills. Person Specification Qualifications Current Professional Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council - RMN / RNLD/ RGN (RNSC – CAMHS Only) Recognised Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor or currently in progress of achieving. Trained in Clinical Supervision and providing Clinical Supervision or in the process of achieving. Postgraduate diploma in a subject relevant to the area or be willing to work towards and achieve within 2 years and, within the first year of being in post, hold a recognised qualification in a governed therapy / advanced clinical qualification e.g. Intermediate Systemic Family Therapy / Post‑Grad diploma in CBT / British Isles Dialectical Behaviour Therapy / NMP (Independent Prescriber) Equivalent clinical experience to that of a Post‑Grad Diploma/master’s level such as working as a band 6 (or above) in relevant clinical area with significant experience (see below under experience), together with evidence of relevant CPD. Experience Significant experience working with patients with complex needs in the specialist field. Significant experience working with patients who display risk behaviours. Clinical risk assessment and management and its application in practice. Working collaboratively with service users, their families and carers. Working in a multi‑disciplinary team. Quality improvement activities. Knowledge Extensive knowledge of current issues relating to health needs of patients in the field of practice, regionally and nationally. Understanding and working knowledge of the legal framework and statutory obligations under the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act. Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice. Clinical Governance and its application in practice. Working knowledge of clinical medicines management. Understanding of psychological models of care and treatment (depending on specialist area).
