First Contact Physio/Clinical Specialist (Band 7) Role at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust. Job Summary Delivering 20.25 hrs/week of First Contact Physiotherapy in Primary Care, and 17.25 hrs/week as an MSK Clinical Specialist with spinal focus, leading assessment, rehabilitation and service development. Location and Working Airedale Hospital, Keighley, BD206TD; also across MSK Physiotherapy sites. 37.5 hrs/week (20.25 hrs FCP / 17.25 hrs MSK). Range: full‑time, part‑time or flexible. Salary and Contract Band 7 – £47,810 to £54,710 per annum (pro‑rata 37.5 hrs). Permanent contract. Working pattern: full‑time, part‑time, or flexible. Key Responsibilities Provide autonomous assessment, triage, diagnosis and management of MSK patients in primary care without prior GP referral. Serve as an MSK Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist (spine focus) – lead and support advanced assessment/re‑habilitation, produce spinal rehabilitation pathways. Deliver integration across Primary and Secondary care, support multidisciplinary team and pathway development. Plan, coordinate, evaluate clinical casework and lead quality improvement initiatives. Mentor staff and support staff/student training, deputise for operational and service managers as required. Engage with patients, carers, MDT, statutory, private and voluntary sector services in partnership working. Lead and promote evidence‑based clinical practice, audit and research. Professional Requirements Degree or equivalent pre‑registration award in Physiotherapy. State registration with the Health Care Professions Council. FCP training completed / prior FCP experience. Post‑graduate courses in MSK Physiotherapy/First Contact Physiotherapy Service and leadership/management. Post‑graduate Diploma in Advanced Practice or similar. Professional validated course in spinal management, if available. MSci or PhD relevant (desirable). Current UK professional registration and disclosure check. Experience Recent comprehensive experience working in MSK physiotherapy/First Contact Physiotherapy service. Experience in multidisciplinary team working and guideline development, management, and audit. Clinical supervision experience (supervisee and supervisor). Experience in leading clinical projects or service improvement, audit, or research. Experience in human resources aspects such as recruitment, performance management, annual leave. Flexible working across shifts, weekends. Leadership/management role, student training. Skills & Personal Attributes Excellent planning, organisational, analytical, reflective and presentation skills. Strong communication, counselling, negotiation, problem‑solving, and interpersonal skills. Digital technology proficiency and Microsoft Office. Ability to influence, mentor, chair meetings, and foster teamwork. High degree of self‑motivation, resilience, honesty, integrity, flexibility and proactive leadership.
