Join to apply for the Qualified Tradesperson Volunteer role at St Leonard's Hospice. We are looking for competent qualified tradespeople, e.g. electricians, plumbers, carpenters, with at least a year’s experience in their trade who would be happy to give their time and skills to support the Hospice on an ad‑hoc basis. Volunteers would help our Facilities team both on‑site and in our shops to carry out maintenance tasks and reactive repairs. The Hospice main site is located on Tadcaster Road and the retail arm of the organisation has 14 shops and a Donation Centre across our catchment area. These raise vital funds for St Leonard’s through the sale of pre‑loved goods and are a valuable face of the Hospice across our local communities. When am I needed? This is an ad‑hoc flexible role to suit your availability that can be shared between a number of volunteers. Help on the main Hospice site would be needed within the working week, Monday‑Friday 8am to 4pm. Our shops and Donation Centre are open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 4pm. Shifts can be arranged at a time to suit you. What Will I Be Doing Carrying out maintenance and repair tasks relating to your trade Helping to maintain the Hospice building and shops to the highest standards Building fabric repairs and upkeep Keeping workshops and plantrooms tidy Maintaining Health & Safety Standards What skills and qualities will I need? Be qualified in a trade, as proven by a nationally recognised certificate Have at least a year’s experience Demonstrate great attention to detail Maintain confidentiality and discretion Be able to work under the instruction of the Estates Manager and to work as part of a team How will I benefit from being a Qualified Tradesperson Volunteer? Use your time and skills for a good cause Be part of a friendly and inclusive team Gain satisfaction of a job well done Have full support from staff Support and Supervision Volunteers will be supervised by the Estates Manager and supported by the Facilities Team. They will provide you with full training, plan your duties, and liaise closely with you over all aspects of your role. The Volunteer Services Team will help you find a suitable role, guide you through the application and induction process and be your point of contact for general enquiries about volunteering. Training Volunteers are required to complete mandatory training modules which are usually delivered via our online platform. Additional, booster and refresher training may be delivered as needed via e‑learning, video links or face‑to‑face. You may also be invited to attend role‑specific in‑person meetings where appropriate.
