Consultant Psychiatrist in CAMHS Learning Disability The closing date is 05 December 2025 This is an exciting opportunity for a child andadolescent consultant psychiatrist to become involved in transformation andleadership within a forward looking CAMHS service. We are keen to shape thepost to fit the needs of the right applicant and to support them in developingtheir interests within our broad portfolio of services. Durham Tees Valley Child and Adolescent Mental HealthServices work with children and young people up to the age of 18 across GettingHelp, Getting More help and neurodevelopmental assessment teams. Generic teamsare closely linked with LD CAMHS, Eating Disorders and Forensic CAMHS. The outof hours activity is supported by dedicated CAMHS crisis team, which operateson 24/7 basis and provides extended crisis input as well as home treatmentoptions as an alternative to hospital admissions. This is areplacement post following the moving of post by the previous substantiveconsultant within the same care group. The post has been covered by locumconsultant psychiatrists in the interim. Durham Tees Valley Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services meet themental and behaviour needs of children and young people up to the age of 18years. The service is split into: Getting Help CAMHS, Getting More Help CAMHS, LD CAMHS and Neurodevelopmental assessment teams, intensive Home treatment, Crisis and Intensive Positive Behaviour Support Specialist services (Eating Disorders and ForensicCAMHS). Main duties of the job All referrals now come into the Single Point of Access at the Mulberry Centre, Darlington and are offered a face to face or telephoneaccess to service assessment. Those coming into Specialist LD CAMHS are thenoffered an appointment for initial assessment. All young people open to the team have a Lead Professional /Care Co-ordinator. Consultant medical staff do not generally undertake initialassessments; they provide Lead Professional / Care Co-ordinator input for onlya small number of cases. A multi-agency Autism Spectrum Disorder Specialist Teamoperates Trustwide The multi-disciplinary Specialist Eating Disorder Team(which covers County Durham and Darlington) accepts referrals from North DurhamLDCAMHS. Children and young people with attentional difficulties areassessed by the multidisciplinary team. We currently have trained nurseprescribers who work within this sub- team and have plans to further developthis provision within the team. Young people presenting with immediate risk are assessed bythe childrens Crisis Team which operates 24 hr cover soon, seven days aweek. Medical staff provide daytime medical cover and out of hours through theon-call rota. The CAMHS intensive home treatment team and Intensive PositiveBehaviour Support team offer intensive home treatment to a small number ofchildren and young people in crisis to prevent admission or to support afterdischarge from Inpatient units. There is access to Holly unit for out of thehome behaviour support. About us We are one of the largest specialist mental health and learning disabilities trusts in the country, with an annual income of £320m and a workforce of some 6,700 staff operating from around 100 sites in Durham, Teesside, North Yorkshire and York and Selby. We provide a range inpatient and community services to 2m people living in County Durham, the Tees Valley, Scarborough, Whitby, Ryedale, Harrogate, Hambleton and Richmondshire. We also provide additional specialist services to other parts of Northern England. We deliver our services by working in partnership with eight local authorities and clinical commissioning groups, a wide range of voluntary organisations, as well as service users, their carers and the public. Psychiatrists are essentialcontributors to the majority of our mental health teams. Service users expectand are justified to expect collaborative relationships with dedicatedpsychiatrists who work consistently as part of effective services. Our medicalstaffing shortage puts strain on services and puts strain on workforcewellbeing and costs extend beyond the financial. Has led clinical audits leading to service change Qualifications MB BS or equivalent medical qualification. Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment. Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management. MRCPsych or equivalent postgraduate qualification. Approved Clinician Status and Section 12 Status OR be able to achieve within 3 months.
