Health Care Support Worker - AMU Join us at Wye Valley NHS Trust in Hereford County Hospital, Acute Medical Unit. Job Summary We are looking for enthusiastic, dynamic and quick‑thinking staff to join our friendly team to deliver care to acutely unwell patients admitted directly from the Emergency Department. Patients are rapidly assessed and treated in the AMU before being moved to other wards, community hospitals or home. Key Responsibilities Deliver high standards of personal care to patients Support the Registered Nurses to deliver care plans Escort patients to other wards and departments Work shifts on a rotation of days and nights, including weekends Main Duties Assist the registered nurse in the delivery of direct and indirect patient care Report any concerns regarding cleanliness, hazards and patient safety to the registered nurse Ensure patients’ condition and progress are communicated to the registered nurse regularly Ensure equipment is clean and in good working order Maintain a clean and tidy environment Participate in the induction of staff new to the clinical area Minimise hazards in the working area and report identifiable hazards to the line manager; adhere to all safe systems of work applicable to the area Demonstrate effective communication, both orally and in writing, to ensure dissemination of information Maintain confidentiality at all times Promote awareness of child protection issues; attend child protection training in accordance with policy Promote awareness of adult protection issues; attend adult protection training sessions in accordance with the Herefordshire Multi‑Agency Policy and Procedures for the Protection of Vulnerable Adults from Abuse Person Specification Education & Qualifications Desirable: Minimum Maths and English GCSE grades 3–9 or grades A,B,C,D or equivalent Functional Skills qualifications Desirable: Willingness to undertake Maths and English Functional Skills qualifications Desirable: Diploma level 2/3 in Health & Social Care Desirable: Willingness to work towards Apprenticeship level 2/3 in Health & Social Care Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Essential: Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing Desirable: Demonstrate knowledge of roles and responsibilities within a clinical setting Desirable: Knowledge of administrative and organisational skills Desirable: Keyboard skills Experience Essential: Working with people Desirable: Previous experience in a care environment Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
