Health Care Support Worker - Part Time Work with KEMP Hospice to provide compassionate, person‑centred care in Day Hospice and Hospice at Home services. Role Overview Part time | Permanent | 30 hrs per week | 5 days per weekWorking hours between 6:00am and 10:00pm, Mon – SunClosing date 28/12/25 | Interviews expected to be held w/c 05/01/26 and 12/01/26£19,256.80 per annum (FTE: £24,071.00) About the Role As a Health Care Support Worker you will offer a range of care tasks, comfort, dignity and emotional support to patients, families and carers. You will work within a small, supportive team to help people live well from diagnosis to end of life, giving reassurance and companionship. Responsibilities Clinical Responsibilities Provide personal care including washing, dressing, toileting and mobility support, ensuring dignity, comfort and respect for the individual. Support patients to maintain independence, choice and control over their care. Assist with eating, drinking and medication prompts as directed. Observe and promptly report any changes in patient condition to the appropriate member of the clinical team. Follow infection prevention and control procedures consistently. Deliver care within both Day Hospice and Hospice at Home services, supporting group activities, therapies, respite and end‑of‑life care visits. Record all care given accurately and promptly using electronic patient records. Contribute to multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussions and care planning. Promote dignity, compassion and choice in all aspects of care, supporting advanced care planning in line with patient preferences. Teamwork & Communication Work collaboratively with nursing colleagues, therapists, volunteers and the wider Care Services team. Communicate clearly, compassionately and sensitively with patients, families, carers and colleagues. Support volunteers and new team members. Share information appropriately within the team to maintain continuity and safety of care. Demonstrate a positive, flexible approach, responding to changing needs of the service. Education & Quality Improvement Take part in audits, reviews and infection control activities. Maintain awareness of CQC requirements and contribute to delivery of safe, effective and responsive care. Participate in training, supervision and reflective practice. Contribute ideas for service improvement. Professional Responsibilities Act in accordance with KEMP Hospice policies, procedures and values. Manage workload effectively, prioritising tasks. Uphold the values of KEMP Hospice by demonstrating compassion, integrity and accountability. Represent KEMP Hospice positively in all interactions. Engage in ongoing learning and development. Person Specification Qualifications Essential – Care Certificate or Level 2 or 3 qualification in Health and Social Care (or equivalent). Desirable – Other relevant health or social care qualifications; recent palliative care or end‑of‑life care education; recent training in patient moving and handling procedures. Experience Essential – Experience of working as a HCA / Health Care Support Worker or similar role in a healthcare, community or social care setting. Desirable – Awareness of the bereavement process; experience of supporting patients with palliative and/or end‑of‑life needs; experience in community or hospice services; familiarity with virtual platforms such as Teams/Zoom. Skills, Knowledge and Personal Attributes Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, presentation). Competent IT skills. Ability to carry out basic clinical observations and safe moving and handling techniques. Understanding of infection control requirements. Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team; set own priorities and manage time effectively. Highly motivated and enthusiastic; able to reflect and critically appraise performance. Reliable and flexible; personal insight and ability to cope with personal emotions in distressing situations. Own car and current licence with business usage. Desirable – Training in extended clinical skills; recent palliative care / end‑of‑life education.
