Specialist Biomedical Scientist (Band 6) – Trainee Position Location: Royal Infirmary Edinburgh Department of Laboratory Medicine Infection Science (Bacteriology). You may be required to undergo a different level of criminal records check from 1 April 2025. Applicants for a regulated role will need to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. Role Overview Applications are invited from suitably experienced and motivated HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists with significant Bacteriology experience and completion of the IBMS Specialist Diploma in Microbiology. This is a trainee position covering the Bacteriology Laboratory within the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. The post operates within a 24/7 working system. Responsibilities Participate in the 24/7 working system. Complete the in‑house training schedule and specialist portfolio as required to progress to Band 6. Engage in Continuing Professional Development. Qualifications HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist. Significant Bacteriology experience. Completion of the IBMS Specialist Diploma in Microbiology. Motivation to develop within the Specialist Biomedical Scientist track. Salary & Annexe 21 Up to 12 months prior to completion of training: 75% of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate. More than one but less than two years prior to completion of training: 70% of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate. More than two but less than three years prior to completion of training: 65% of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate. More than three years from completion of training: 60% of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate.
