We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the team within the Vehicle Performance Software group. In this role, you will report directly to the Head of Vehicle Performance Software and will be instrumental in developing innovative software solutions that enhance and support the efforts of our Engineering and Operations teams.This role offers a unique opportunity to work with a highly specialised user base at Atlassian Williams Racing on state-of-the-art simulations, real time data, bespoke analysis tools, and enabling operational excellence. We view software and data as critical drivers in our mission to advance up the grid. Your contributions will have a tangible impact, both in our factory and on the track.The Software Development group develops bespoke software to support our Engineering and Operations functions at Williams Racing. The group is composed of several software development teams that focus on areas such as Aerodynamics, Vehicle Dynamics and Vehicle Performance.We aim to leverage the right tools and technologies for the right job. We have a large estate of software including desktop applications in C++ and C#, web applications in React, backend services in Typescript, C++ and C#, and analysis tools in Python and other scientific computing languages. As part of our modernization journey, we are adopting cloud native technologies alongside modern data platforms.Key responsibilities will include:Collaborating with users and product owners to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutionsWorking with the wider Software Development team to develop, implement and maintain innovative software solutionsEnhancing existing systems to adapt to changing requirements, increase reliability, and improve performance at scaleCollaborating with other technology groups in the company to enhance and develop the shared data platform and servicesConducting code reviews and mentoring junior developers to ensure best practices and improve qualityStreamlining our own software development process, enabling us to deliver more to our customers and contribute toward improving shared software processes within the Engineering and Operations groupsProviding ad-hoc application support through race weekend events where necessaryContributing to the definition and documentation of preferred software designs, patterns and architectures to improve standardisation and efficiency across software teamsSkills and experience required:Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related disciplineExperience of software development, testing, and CI in languages such as Typescript, C++, C#, F#, Rust or ScalaAppreciation for strong typing and well-structured code, with an interest in leveraging the type system to improve software correctness and maintainabilityFamiliarity with functional programming principles (e.g. immutability, pure functions, composition), even when working in multi-paradigm environmentsCollaborative and curious approach to technical problem-solvingStrong desire to build impactful solutions for Engineering usersExcellent communication skills with the ability to convey concept technical concepts to non-technical stakeholdersAbility to work with a wide range of groups and disciplines seamlesslyComfort with rapidly evolving requirementsand an agile mindsetDemonstrated ability to tackle challenging, non-routine problems, with a readiness to learn new technologies rapidlyExposure to the following would be beneficial:Containerization, DevOps, and Cloud Platforms such as Azure or AWSTransforming legacy applications into modern cloud-based solutionsExperience designing, refining and implementing algorithms for optimisation, signal processing, classification, simulations or related domainsExperience with communication protocols such as WebSockets, TCP, or similar technologies for building low-latency, event-driven applicationsUsing document, object, or timeseries datastores or other non-relational stores to solve bespoke problemsExperience in aerodynamics, data science, vehicle dynamics or computer simulationsCompany DescriptionFor almost 50 years, Williams Racing has been at the forefront of one of the fastest sports on the planet, being one of the top three most successful teams in history competing in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship.
