Customer Assistant - Warehouse Operative - Wakefield Join the M&S team as a Customer Assistant in Operations in Wakefield. This physically demanding, high‑intensity role keeps our stores running like clockwork. Working Pattern Week 1 – Sunday 12:15 – 20:15, Tuesday 12:15 – 20:15, Wednesday 12:15 – 20:15, Thursday 12:15 – 20:15, Friday 12:15 – 20:15 Week 2 – Monday 12:15 – 20:15, Tuesday 12:15 – 20:15, Thursday 12:15 – 20:15, Friday 12:15 – 20:15, Saturday 12:15 – 20:15 Responsibilities Manage stock, deliveries, and all behind‑the‑scenes work that keeps the shop floor full, clean and ready for customers. Maintain a fast, focused pace to keep product flow moving with urgency and accuracy. Show flexibility by working across the wider store where needed. Use digital tools confidently to track deliveries and manage stock efficiently. Act as a key team player, working across functions and supporting colleagues. Adapt quickly to shifting stock and delivery demands. Key Accountabilities Serve customers efficiently and brilliantly well on the shop floor and at service points. Deliver ‘best in town’ standards through presentation, availability and store cleanliness. Utilise digital tools and communication channels to do the job. Share customer and colleague feedback to improve processes. Share knowledge and experience with colleagues to support skill development. Own learning and development; access digital learning solutions proactively. Understand daily sales targets, priorities, promotions and selling opportunities. Demonstrate strong product knowledge to sell and recommend our products. Engage proactively with customers to understand needs and make recommendations. Know store priorities and your part in them. Complete tasks with pace and in line with SOPs. Minimise cost and waste through good process practice. Follow safe and legal working practices. Key Capabilities Understand M&S strategy, future and role. Commit to delivering excellent work fast with great attention to detail. Open to and act on feedback, asking for it regularly. Set performance objectives with line manager. Take accountability for planning and managing own work efficiently. Curious and asks questions to challenge the status quo. Build positive relationships by listening and establishing connections. Technical Skills / Experience Contribute to store sales and cost control. Work across the store to get things done right the first time within time‑scales. Comprehensive knowledge of customer shopping channels. Good level of product knowledge and services across the store. Up‑to‑date knowledge of the commercial operation and basics. Good digital capability and use of applications. Understand customer needs and spotting selling opportunities. Adapt to change. Good knowledge of VM principles.
