Temporary Works Manager Costain has won extensive work across the water sector this year to support the AMP 8 investment cycle. We have been appointed by United Utilities as one of seven partners to the Enterprise, delivering £5.5bn of projects in Asset Management Period 8 (AMP 8) between 2025 – 2030 and AMP 9 (2030 – 2035). Our scope is to provide project management, design, construction and commissioning services on design and build schemes throughout North West and Cumbria covered by United Utilities. Projects vary in value, covering both infrastructure and non‑infrastructure assets on water and wastewater sites with wider Enterprise partners. As Temporary Works Manager, you will act as the Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) on large‑scale civil engineering projects, managing a small team and coordinating with permanent works design managers. Your responsibilities include ensuring that all temporary works are safely designed, constructed, implemented and removed in accordance with Project Procedures and industry standards. You will be Chartered Civil Engineer (or working towards), a CSCS Card holder, a CITB Temporary Works Coordinator Course graduate (preferred) and have completed SMSTS (preferred). Be responsible for the implementation of Costain Temporary Works (TW) procedures Lead the Temporary Works Coordinators in the practical aspects of Temporary Works management on sites Liaise with the UU Partner DIs Liaise with the Electrical Lead and Mechanical Lead for TW issues on sites Manage the Costain/UU combined Temporary Works Register Maintain register of competent TWC’s and TWS’s through liaison with the Partner DIs Coordinate TW design with TW Designers and Checkers Lead on the development of Temporary Works standards solutions Manage the Technical Risk Management Plan Essential Qualifications and Skills Civil engineering qualification and practical delivery experience Ability to work independently to deliver industry best practice for Temporary Works Experience as part of large‑scale infrastructure programmes of work Ability to unify teams to achieve safe, consistent and appropriate TW solutions Good organisational skills Effective communication and strong stakeholder management skills Passionate about improving performance in the sector through best practice, process improvements and continuous improvement practices Previous experience of management on complex/sensitive programmes Practical experience working with NEC 4 contracts Positive and proactive attitude SMSTS CSCS Driving licence Desirable Qualifications and Skills Experience in the water industry Chartered Engineer of a relevant institution A Disability Confident employer will generally offer an interview to any applicant that discloses they have a disability and meets the minimum criteria for the job as defined by the employer.
