We are looking for Band 6 senior staff nurses who appreciate the challenge and reward of working in a fast‑paced environment in which we provide life‑saving care. We are seeking an experienced senior staff nurse with a minimum of 2 years experience within an acute surgical setting. Experienced nurses with relevant experience and an interest in the specialty are encouraged to apply. Key Responsibilities Act as Nurse in Charge and deputise for the ward manager; coordinate patients and staff daily and ensure high standards of care. Lead a team of staff: conduct 1:1s, appraisals, roster management, quality audit and incident investigation. Deliver complex nursing care for a dynamic 32‑bed general surgery ward (upper GI, colorectal, urology, T&O, ENT, gynaecology) and a specialist bariatric centre. Support patients from A&E admission through surgical journey to discharge, including early deterioration detection, specialist drain and stoma care, complex pain and wound management, and parenteral nutrition. Provide flexible cover for other wards and model best practice in a teaching hospital environment. Qualifications & Experience Registered Nurse with relevant post‑registration qualification. Minimum 2 years post‑registration experience; previous senior staff level experience desirable. Awareness of professional responsibilities and commitment to ongoing professional development. Strong assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care, prioritisation and workload management skills. Excellent verbal and written communication; motivational and enthusiastic about specialty. Desirable: UGI/Colorectal Course, Acutely Unwell Adult Course, Leadership Management Course, evidence of implementing innovation in practice.
