The role commences January 2026 for 3 months, based at Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, potentially at NCCC‑Carlisle. Job Description The consultant will provide tertiary‑level oncology care within the teaching hospital’s cancer centre and peripheral clinics, with a commitment to general oncological care during on‑call rotations and to teaching, education, research, and audit activities. Key Responsibilities Provide oncology advice to the MDT and to patients across gynaecological cancers. Prescribe and supervise chemotherapy. Provide on‑call cover for general oncological emergencies and advice to non‑specialist teams. Out‑patient clinic, day unit and ward management. Participate in clinical governance processes, including reporting into the Trust mortality database. Engage with administrative electronic systems necessary for patient care. Contribute to the active research programme linked to Sir Bobby Robson Unit, the research and development directorate, and Newcastle University. Develop teaching skills; bedside and clinical teaching of undergraduate students. Supervise Trust junior doctors, deanery trainees and AHCPs. Agree to a flexible work pattern as required, including evenings and weekends. Person Specification Essential Primary Medical Qualification; full GMC registration. Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register within 6 months of the appointment. Evidence of experience and substantial commitment in gynaecological oncological specialty. Ability to provide expert clinical opinion and independent responsibility for tertiary‑care patients. Involvement with management, project leadership and authoring or reviewing clinical guidelines; understanding of Clinical Governance. Experience supervising junior medical staff; participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching; ability to teach clinical skills. Evidence of research methodology and publications in the last five years. Evidence of audit participation and changes implemented as a result of audit. Desirable Higher degree; special skills training in specialty. Proven management and administrative experience; leadership/project management. Experience implementing changes and developing new technologies. Postgraduate qualification in medical education; attendance at teaching skill courses. Higher degree (in research context). Personal Attributes Alignment with the Trust’s values. Flexible approach to service delivery and commitment to development. Willingness to share in professional, managerial and teaching responsibilities. Commitment to personal/unit CPD. Ability and willingness to work the on‑call rota and a more flexible pattern if required.
