Locum Consultant Clinical Oncologist – Interest in Upper GI – 9.25 PAs We are delighted to offer a highly motivated, ambitious individual the opportunity to join our well integrated team as a Locum Consultant Clinical Oncologist. This post commences January 2026 for a 3‑month term at a part‑time 9.25 Professional Association level. Location: Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE7 7DN. Contract Details Contract: Fixed‑term Duration: 3 months Working pattern: Part‑time Pay scheme: Hospital medical and dental staff Salary: £109,725 – £145,478 a year pro rata Grade: Consultant Responsibilities Provide oncology advice to MDT and patients with upper‑GI cancers. Prescribe and supervise chemotherapy. Cover on‑call for general oncological emergencies and out‑of‑hours advice to non‑specialist teams. Manage out‑patient clinic, day unit and ward services. Participate in clinical governance processes including reporting to the Trust mortality database. Engage with the Trust electronic systems required for patient care. Contribute to the research programme linked to the Sir Bobby Robson Unit, the late‑phase research team and Newcastle University. Develop teaching skills within the Directorate and wider Trust environment, including bedside and clinical teaching of undergraduate students and supervision of junior doctors, deanery trainees and AHCPs. Qualifications Essential Primary medical qualification. Full GMC registration. Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register within six months of the appointment date. Evidence of experience in upper‑GI oncology and a substantial commitment to the specialty. Ability to offer an expert clinical opinion and take independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients referred to a tertiary centre. Experience supervising junior medical staff and participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Evidence of research involvement, including publication of findings. Evidence of participation in audit and ability to change practice based on audit outcomes. Alignment with the Trust's values, flexible approach to service delivery and commitment to personal development. Desirable Higher degree. Special skills training in the specialty. Higher degree in medical education. Experience of leadership and project management. Evidence of implementing new technologies and leading change.
