Head of Compliance A dynamic, fast-growing UK challenger bank is seeking a Head of Compliance (SMF16) to lead its regulatory and compliance framework. This is a senior leadership position reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, responsible for ensuring the bank operates to the highest regulatory and ethical standards while supporting its strategic growth. The Role As Head of Compliance, you’ll manage the bank’s compliance function and act as Data Protection Officer, ensuring full adherence to PRA and FCA requirements. You’ll provide strategic oversight, develop frameworks, and offer assurance to the Board and Executive team that the regulatory control environment remains robust and effective. Key Responsibilities Lead and develop the Compliance function, ensuring alignment with FCA/PRA regulations. Maintain and oversee the compliance monitoring plan, providing regular reporting and assurance to senior management and the Board. Act as Data Protection Officer, overseeing data protection frameworks and staff training in line with GDPR requirements. Develop and maintain policies for conduct, financial crime, and regulatory compliance. Provide independent advice on compliance and financial crime risks for new products and initiatives. Deliver training and promote a culture of compliance across the organisation. Partner with regulators, auditors, and external advisers on compliance and governance matters. Manage and mentor compliance team members, fostering a culture of integrity and accountability. About You Educated to degree level with a relevant professional qualification. Extensive experience in compliance and conduct risk within financial services (ideally banking). Strong understanding of UK regulatory frameworks, including FCA/PRA expectations and SMCR. Experience acting as (or supporting) an SMF16 function. Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills. High levels of integrity and a proactive, solution-oriented approach.
