Experience tutoring or teaching small groups? This specialist school based in Newham is looking for a Therapeutic Education practitioner to work with challenging children and young people. The school is a specialist PRU school that caters for young people who have been excluded or at risk of being excluded from a mainstream school. The role is community based. Summary of Role Therapeutic Education practitioners will have the opportunity to work in this SEMH school with an international reputation in special education expertise, curriculum and resources. Experience of working with hard‑to‑reach young people with SEMH, ACE's, ASD, sensory and communication difficulties is required. We are looking for candidates who are trauma informed with a mentoring/coaching/teaching background and an understanding of Therapeutic Education. The ability to build strong, meaningful and healthy relationships, maintain professional boundaries, be resilient, solution‑focused and reflective in their practice is essential. Full‑time (temporary long term) positions (Mon‑Fri). Responsibilities Work 1:1 with students in the community accessing one of the Curriculum Pathways (Engagement, Vocational, Academic). Be flexible to travel to the hub at times with students and around London to work with different students within their cluster groups. Attend the Therapy and Life Skills Hub in Barking every Friday for CPD/meeting/resources. Use highly personalised individual education plans to support students. Collaborate with classroom teachers to define appropriate activities related to the curriculum. Assess children with long or short‑term learning difficulties and identify individual special needs with colleagues. Liaise with other professionals such as social workers, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists and educational psychologists. Teach/cover a range of lessons when needed. Qualifications & Skills Background in SEMH, SEBD or ASD. Experience with challenging behaviour. Team Teach or MAPA training. Experience tutoring or teaching small groups. Experience working with mental health problems and complex SEN needs. Excellent behaviour management skills. Strong relationship‑building skills with young people and staff. Knowledge/experience working with children with SEMH in a special needs environment. Experience with secondary aged pupils (KS2–KS4). Additional Information There is no private parking onsite (only pay and display). Travel expenses during working hours and lunch with students are included and reimbursed. The role starts ASAP.
