Post CCT Clinical Fellow in Paediatric AnaesthesiaApplications are invited for a clinical fellow post at the Leeds Children’s Hospital, which is part of Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust. This post will commence as soon as possible, for a period of 12 months. It will provide comprehensive training in all aspects and subspecialities of paediatric anaesthesia. Leeds Children’s Hospital provides secondary care for the population of Leeds and is a regional referral centre for all of Yorkshire and the Humber. Supra-regional services include cardiac surgery, hepatobiliary services including liver transplantation, plastic reconstructive surgery, robotic surgery, major oncology surgery, radiotherapy, and an integrated pain service.The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic and dynamic paediatric anaesthetic team consisting of 30 paediatric anaesthetists. As this post is funded by the NHS, priority will be given to candidates who, after completing this post, could commence a consultant post in tertiary Paediatric anaesthesia in the UK.Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license to practice at the time of application.Prospective applicants wishing to discuss the post further and/or arrange an informal visit may contact Dr Rory Colhoun or Dr Wendy Lim, Clinical Supervisors in Paediatric Anaesthesia, via Mr Paul Grant on 0113 3926 672.Main duties of the jobTo work with paediatric anaesthetic colleagues in the provision of a comprehensive paediatric anaesthetic service at Leeds Children’s Hospitals.To develop or consolidate expertise in paediatric anaesthesia and fulfil all requirements for advanced training in paediatric anaesthesia.To maintain and contribute to the teaching and research activities already established within the Trust.To support service plans for the specialty, taking account of changes in clinical practice and new technologies available.To participate in and progress clinical governance.To conduct research, quality improvement, audits and contribute to congenital cardiac education in the form of monthly CCAN formal teaching and involvement in departmental/PICU SIM training.This post will not have an out of hours banding supplement.The post will have protected time for clinical audit, research, and teaching. Trainees will be expected and encouraged to take part in these activities as part of their one‑year training post. The anaesthetic department has an active academic department attached to the University.Trainees will be required to attend regular monthly M&M meetings and bi‑monthly paediatric Journal club.About usLeeds has one of the largest Children’s Hospitals in the country, delivering surgical procedures to over 12,000 children per year, including approximately 300 neonates. The trust performs around 500 congenital cardiac operations per year. Other specialist paediatric services in Leeds include laparoscopic and robotic surgery, airway surgery, liver and renal transplant, neurosurgery, and major plastic reconstructive surgery. The trust is also a paediatric major trauma centre with a 16‑bed PICU, a 6‑bed HDU and a tertiary NICU.The Anaesthetic Department: Leeds Teaching Hospitals employ over 149 Consultant Anaesthetists, each with their own subspecialty interest. The Department of Anaesthesia is based across two sites at St James Hospital and the Leeds General Infirmary. The Children’s Hospital is located within the Leeds General Infirmary. There are 30 Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetists and 10 PICU Consultants.Job responsibilitiesThis post is designed to provide advanced sub‑specialty training in paediatric anaesthesia. It is suitable for those wanting to specialise in paediatric anaesthesia and will provide extensive training and experience in this sub‑specialty. It will also give significant opportunities for clinical audit and research.
