Aquatic Attendant (Summer) NC101 Service Area: Neighbourhood and Community-Wide Services Division: Recreation and Sport Job Type: Casual # of Openings: 50 Summary: Aquatic Services provide London families and individuals of all ages with opportunities to participate in unstructured aquatic activities and structured educational programs to teach drowning prevention and water safety. Role: Reporting to the Supervisor, Recreation Services, the Aquatic Attendant is responsible for ensuring a safe and enjoyable aquatic experience for Londoners. This casual position works as part of a team in a public facing fast paced aquatic environment to promote public water safety, involved in drowning prevention events and assists with swim lessons while providing excellent customer service to Londoners. Job Responsibilities: Control the use of pool equipment and amusement devices during recreational swims and facility rentals. Monitor the public while using the wading pools and/or slide during operating hours. Assist in the aquatic Learn to Swim program lesson planning instruction and delivery with guidance from Instructor/guard. Promote public water safety education drowning prevention initiatives. Participate in all training sessions and be able to demonstrate and maintain skills relevant to the position. Clean wading pool prior to filling and empty at the end of the day. Monitor the wading pool until it is completely emptied. Record and submit timely, neat and accurate documentation including but not limited to bather load, chemical logs, incident and accident reports etc. Conduct and organize daily games and activities as well as weekly special event days. Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and a positive and professional attitude when communicating with participants, parents, the public, and co-workers. Demonstrate commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression and human rights through practices and interactions with community partners, employees, and individuals and support programs and initiatives that reflect this commitment. Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Health and Safety legislation and programs; actively promote a culture of safety. Perform other tasks as assigned. Qualifications: Current Standard First Aid Certificate (prior to the start of employment). Current Bronze Cross or higher Certificate. Current Lifesaving Society Assistant Instructor or higher Certificate recommended. Vulnerable Sector Police Check (VSPC) (prior to the start of employment). Skills and Abilities: Ability to demonstrate good communication, high energy, enthusiasm and continued positive attitude. Ability to demonstrate interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. High level of comfort in fast paced public facing environments. Experience working with children, youth and/or adults with special needs an asset. Second language is an asset (please indicate on resume). Other Information: Starting Wage: $17.60 per hour Head Instructor/Lifeguard (Summer) NC320 Service Area: Neighbourhood and Community-Wide Services Division: Recreation and Sport Job Type: Casual # of Openings: 50 Summary: Aquatic Services provide London families and individuals of all ages with opportunities to participate in unstructured aquatic activities and structured educational programs to teach drowning prevention and water safety. Role: Reporting to the Supervisor, Aquatics, the Head Instructor/Lifeguard is responsible for opening and closing procedures at the pool, providing support to a variety of aquatic programs and ensuring a safe and enjoyable aquatic experience for Londoners. This casual position works as part of a team in a public facing fast paced aquatic environment providing high quality programs while providing excellent customer service. Job Responsibilities: Responsible for the safety and supervision of the participants and staff to ensure that policies, rules and regulations are followed. Responsible for the safety, security and cleanliness of the facility. Provide support and coordination to a variety of aquatic programs such as, drop-in programs, pool rentals, registered programs and special events. Act as a positive role model, work as a team to ensure staff are following protocols. Coordinate staff rotations, breaks, delegation of tasks, work assignments. Demonstrate excellent customer service skills along with a professional and positive attitude when communicating with the public and customers. Provide support as an Instructor/Lifeguard, Aquatic Attendant, Cashier and/or Building Attendant and maintain certifications for those positions. Perform cash, instructional, lifeguarding and aquafit duties as required. Knowledgeable of city programs and policies. Responsible for securing facility before and after programs. Participate in training sessions. Other Information: Starting Wage: $19.50 per hour Day Camp Playground Coordinator (Summer) NC312 Service Area: Neighbourhood and Community-Wide Services Division: Recreation and Sport Job Type: Casual # of Openings: 40 Summary: Day Camp programs provide children ages 4-12 the opportunity to improve self-esteem, motor skills, creativity, and social skills through a variety of crafts, arts, and physical activities as well as excursions to local places of interest. Role: Reporting to a Recreation Supervisor, the Day Camp/Playground Coordinator is responsible for the coordination, and administration and supervision of Day Camp or Playground programs at a specific program site throughout the City of London. This casual position works as part of a team in a public facing fast paced environment ensuring programs are run efficiently to meet the needs of the participants aged 4-12 while providing excellent customer service to City of London patrons and volunteers. Job Responsibilities: Oversee the activities at program locations to ensure the care, safety and security of camp staff and participants. Assist in the supervising, coaching, scheduling and evaluation of Day Camp or Playground staff. Plan, develop, and implement program activities and special events for children ages 4-12 in accordance with Child and Youth Agenda priority areas. Ensure suitable facility accommodations as per activity and safety needs. Communicate with parents/caregivers of participants daily. Assist in the development and delivery of frontline training programs. Assist in the interviewing and hiring of frontline staff. Maintain supplies as required for the program. Create and distribute program promotional materials. Collect and maintain accurate records for registration, attendance, safety checks, accident reports, operational and program evaluations, program expenses, and trips. Prepare and submit weekly budget reports. Use appropriate behaviour modification techniques when supervising participants. Work well independently, and with a team, with both internal and external partners. Facilitate and attend regular staff meetings as required. Ensure all City of London policies, practices, and protocols are adhered to. Comply with the City of London School Age Recreation Program Guidelines. Support the Camps on TRACKS peer-mediated social skills program. Offer critical and timely feedback to ensure optimal camper safety and experience. Ensure high program standards and best practice for healthy development and play. Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and a positive and professional attitude when communicating with participants, parents, the public, and co-workers. Demonstrate commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression, and human rights through practices and interactions with community partners, employees and individuals and support programs and initiatives that reflect this commitment. Qualifications: Minimum three years experience in a children’s summer camp or playground program environment with some supervisory, program planning and organizational experience preferred. Experience with children with special needs and/or behavioural challenges is an asset. HIGH FIVE® - Healthy Child Development Certification and QUEST Certification (prior to the start of the program). Standard First Aid Certificate (prior to the start of the program). Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) (prior to the start of the program). Valid drivers’ license and access to a vehicle is required. Skills and Abilities: Ability to demonstrate interpersonal and customer service skills. Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate behaviour modification techniques. Second language is an asset (please indicate on resume). Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Ability to be flexible and travel throughout the city as required by Supervisor. Knowledge of Microsoft Office software including publisher, excel and word and Xplor Recreation registration software (preferred). Ability to demonstrate good communication, high energy, enthusiasm and continued positive attitude. Strong behaviour management is necessary. Experience working with campers to build their independence and social skills. Strong coaching and mentoring skills. Other Information: Rate of Pay: $20.50 - $21.00 per hour Hours Per Week: 40 hours Training: Mandatory training dates will occur in the month of May and June on evenings and weekends, as needed.
